The Pita Pit was good!

I think as long as you have money you can eat anywhere in MU, student or not.

Unless you happen to be a hawkeye like hooch.

In that case, there's always stuff floating on the top of Lake Latrine

Heck...I'm not even an ISU fan but seeing the tents go up is nice to see that it's finally here. The new Logo on the back of the scoreboard really stands out.

Can anyone go into Panda Express or is it just for students?

Anyone can go in there...You can even go into the University Bookstore and buy yourself some nice ISU garb and you'll officially be a fan!

I hate Panda Express. I know people who absolutely love it, I'm not one of them.

I'm glad they are repairing the road in front of the MU it was really bad. But, they stripped it on Monday and the last 2 days have done nothing.

Speaking of eating and campus... where is the best place to get a simi-cheap, but tasty lunch? I've been back for a little less than a week working on campus and had subway once. I looked in the other MU food section, but was scared b/c I didn't recognize any names of any places in there.

The HUB right outside of the library usually grills burgers, brats, chicken...at least they did before they renovated it. I believe they even have like coleslaw and macaroni salad type deals. I don't know if they are open this summer at all as I haven't been around that area but when they were open I'd go there 3-4 times a week and have a delicious lunch!

I like the Mayhouse and New China west on lincoln way. Try to order stuff on the Chinese menu (not stuff like orange chicken, fried rice, etc).

I also find it hard to find "good" Chinese food. I like to eat Thai because it seems it isn't as Americanized as Chinese food is here...

House of Chen behind North Grand Mall is by far the best chinese food in Ames. I also highly recommend Happy House in Nevada at the corner of 6th and Lincoln Highway, they have a great lunch buffet!

Just an update from a recent trip around Ames/campus:

-Tents are going up in front of the stadium
-The new Alumni Center is nearly finished...pouring the stairway yesterday.
-Stopped by the Hub and it is NICE in there. Caribou Coffee and ISU dining has a full grill inside. They are still working on the addition with more seating, but most people wouldn't recognize the old space full of vending machines.
-Speaking of not recognizing a place, the University Book Store looks awesome. When I was a student, they had a very small selection of ISU clothing. Now they have more selection than Scheels in WDM and I bet twice that of T-Galaxy. Overall, they did a great job with the MU renovation/addition.
-The Hilton Garden Inn out west is framed and should be open later this fall.
-Stopped by Lowes yesterday and about puked seeing a large hok display inside the door. Rugs for sale. Evidently, ISU doesn't have a similar product. Made me sick and I wanted to rip it down. I can't believe that there would be a market for that crap in Ames. ISU's licensing dept needs to loosen up a bit.
-The Coover addition is nice.
-Pammel Dr is closed and they are working on the new chemistry building.
-JT is rounding into shape and the field looks great!

I was in Lowes a week ago and they had an even amont of both Iowa State and Iowa in that display, so they must of just sold out of all the ISU stuff!

House of Chen is very good - they're moving out to West Lincoln Way soon. Chinese Homestyle Cooking on Lincoln Way (across from Taco Bell) is very good. Go Thai at the Spice, though, for the best food!

Their pad thai is so freaking awesome. They have some pad prik ew or something that is delicious, too - a little peppery. The chef used to be a chef at a four- or five-star restaurant in Thailand, didn't he?

I have had it - it has definitely grown on me (it used to be HORRIBLE when it was Golden Wok). I think the one I like is the Hunan Chicken?

Yes, Golden Wok plain sucked, as it does in Ames. If you ever grab the buffet at Happy House, the Black Pepper Chicken is great, and the Honey Chicken is very sweet!

I don't remember what I got...it was pasta-ish stuff and it was phenomenal. When my boss said he was taking the interns to the Spice, I looked it up and though oh god...freaking Thai. Ordered that stuff and it was absolutely awesome. Their smoothies also get my seal of approval.:notworthy:

Little bit of trivia for you - the bookstore makes almost nothing on books. Their revenue is mostly driven by people buying clothes and stuff like that. That's why it was a big benefit to expand.

I've never made it for the buffet, but I'll do my best to try!! Usually end up going at night when it's all closed. I wonder if they do the buffet on the weekend??

The pad thai is all noodle-y, so it could be that! I was nervous about Thai, too - my only exposure had been Thai Kitchen, which had not been the greatest experience for me. Try their desserts - they are all gourmet!!

I want some CHC...!
