That was pretty much the only true fluke type turnover. ISU forced a bunch of those.
My random observations:
- This was the 1st year they ever had video replay. Thank goodness.
- Refs still wore white pants
- IIRC, our starting QB and RB were both out
- I don't recall ever seeing that particular head ref before or since. I like to imagine a scenario where somehow he snuck into the ref locker room, put on a uniform, and said "I'm gonna undo about 50 years of bad luck in 1 game today..."
I believe that was during the swine flu epidemic and we had numerous players out. That was a long time ago, so I could be mistakenMy random observations:

This is just as good as the video of David Montgomery fight Baylor and the Knifel gets ejected and then reinstated all dubed over pro wrestling commentary.
I watched this with like 4 strangers at a bar in Johnston because I didn't have the channel (maybe?). I remember hugging those guys and buying each other drinks. It was one of the best days of my life.
Maybe it was 1st year of expanded replay? (like you could replay more things). Memory is getting fuzzy.
I had forgotten about the heart that Jessie Smith played the game with. That was a fun Monday morning as I worked with a bunch of die hard Huskers fans
Was it amazing and amusing to watch? Yes. Also maybe the most fortunate victory in the history of the world.
Yeah. Folks in here will remember, but we were without the services of our starting QB and RB for that game...
2006 was the first year it was required. 2004 Big 10 used it, 2005 most other conferences used it except a couple mid-majors.
I also lived and worked in Omaha at the time (still do). The following Monday I brought in two four-packs of Hy Vee cherry turnovers, set them next to the coffee machine and sent an email to my Husker fan co-workers letting them know about the complimentary 8 Big Red turnovers.
