Sad to see some guys still dissing Morgan when he was sooo much more successful than the guy that replaced him. Some people will just never give him any credit for winning seasons, top 10 wins, and post season wins. But I agree it's time to move on and unite behind Fred and the staff he puts together.

He has fast paced styed of play, and si a good X O coach. His downside is he does not discipline players much

The only negative I took from the PC yesterday was him saying he had numerous chances to be an assitant coach in the NBA. It would have been really nice if he took one of those positions to help groom him for this experience...

The way i read that was that he didn't want to move his family if he didn't have too. As a parent myself I would hate having to move my kids as much as an NBA or college assistant does.

This is a great idea. Then we could hire Johnny Orr as director of basketball operations, Tim Floyd as a special advisor, Larry E as Entertainment Director, and Bruce VanDeVelde as the Beaver.

Explain this one. Picturing BVD as a beaver (real or euphemistic) is immensely troubling.

Are you serious, did you ever watch his teams try to play defense?

Yes... They played a version of the Syracuse 2-3 zone. Only Wayne's version was the lazy man's version where guys gave less effort to conserve energy for the fast break the other way. No wonder Stinson had all of that extra energy to break dance on his way to the basket. :biglaugh:

You obviously haven't been to a Cap City League game. Undisciplined play is color-blind and geographically can come from anywhere. Your translation was not what I was trying to say...thanks for the help however.

I loved watching Stinson break dance to the basket and score big baskets to give us wins against top 10 teams and post season action. Wayne's first two teams actually played pretty good defense when he had experienced big men, proved by his post season success.

Don't know why you are laughing at Stinson's defense, as he was voted to the All-Big 12 defensive team by the leagues coaches. But hey, what do Bill Self and company know about defense?

That defense was outstanding in Wayne's 2nd year and was the key behind that winning streak we piled up. One of the most impressive ISU BB defensive teams I have ever seen, and with a 6-man rotation no less. Unfortunately, the next year, without Homan and Staple, it was the opposite, terribly ineffective and almost "Greg Mcdermott ball" tough to watch.

Larry Brown, Kevin McHale, Larry Bird, Flip Saunders, Jerry Sloan, Don Nelson, Phil Jackson, or Greg Popovich. Fred has ties to all of them so anything less would be very disappointing

On a more serious note after listening to Johnny on Murph and Andy yesterday I would be surprised if Hallihan didn't get 1 of the open positions. As for the other spot, I'm sure Coach Hoiberg (I like the sound of that!) will do his due dilligence and get somebody that is well qualified.

According to GoCyclones.com Rutter was offered a job at Creighton but turned it down because he didn't want to "uproot his family." It also says that he will be meeting with Coach Hoiberg to discuss him staying on.

Just go back and watch the Baylor game. Baylor won something like 4 games and damn near hung a hundy on Wayne's stellar D. Just saying.... We have differing perspectives.

I'd be absolutely shocked if Hallihan was on staff in anything other than an administrative capacity. He has been away from the game for 16 years and that is a LONG time.

Ughh... yea i know.... We need more than one guy traveling the world. You think the top teams like Syracuse, Kansas, Kentucky etc use one recruiter? Im not saying bring in Morgan, but i am saying bring in a minority assistant coach that can relate with the players well. Something has been up for the last 4 years and if all these recruits were "TJ's" guys then why did they bail? Maybe TJ was saying things to the guys that made them come here and his word didnt match up with the players when they got here... maybe?

I'd be absolutely shocked if Hallihan was on staff in anything other than an administrative capacity. He has been away from the game for 16 years and that is a LONG time.

But it worked so well for the Raiders several years ago when they hired an Offensive Coordinator, out of the NFL for ten years running a bed & breakfast. Oh wait....:wink:

Did you listen to Pollard on the radio (or the playback online)? Greg had trouble after Wes bolted deciding how to handle all the guys. Different standards for different players = "I'm not being treated very well...I'm outta here".

Wayne gave us some nice success after the LE debacle, but I think his strengths are similar to Fred's, and that is good recruiting and good player relationships. Don't get me wrong, those are two of the most important qualities in a high d-1 basketball coach, but Fred will probably look for a an x and o guy with head coaching ability to complement his own strengths.
