Who or what type of coach should he bring as an assistant?

X & O's guy or a top recruiter?

I tend to fall on the side of a top level recruiter. We have so many scholly's and not a lot of time.
I have been a proponent of a guy from a top AAU program, then I read the Stackhouse story and him coaching US Adidas U18 team over in Europe. All of the kids on that team are top 100 guys.

I think next years team is probably a bit on cruise control, and TJ does understand the system well enough and probably would not want to make a lot of changes.

IMO he needs a former head coach to help with the part of running a program and specific management items. He also needs a recruiter, because as the head coach, it is now his job to seal the deal, not necessarily make the contact. The third assistant ideally is also a recruiter in my opinion.

He'll need at least 2 assistants. One has to be an older guy. One has to be a recruiter.

TJ's biggest strength will not be as useful as a head coach.

Pay John Lucas what he wants to be an assistant on this staff. He would be huge in recruiting.

Both, he needs his own Lutz (to learn how to run a program) & he needs a good recruiter to take his spot. Personally, I would like to have Fizer on board. Isn't he a preacher/mister of some sort? It would be an easy sell to kids & their parents. ISU legend, NBA experience, knows weight/conditioning, a overall good person (or so it seems on twitter), & is extremely loyal to ISU. It would also give him an opportunity to get his degree so we can Hang 5.

I think an assistant also has to have a degree. Much like Fred couldn't keep an unexperienced coach when he took the job in Grayer. TJ can't waste a spot on Marcus. The athletic department has been very goo about helping former athletes get their degrees over the years. Dedric Willouhby, Kenny Pratt, track athletes, and lots of others. If Marcus is serious about getting his degree nothing is stopping him.

No thanks, he's so awful off the court that he's just not worth it. Maybe if he had a couple more kids that could be d1 prospects. His coaching resume is awful as well. He just oozes sleazeball to me, pry what gives him a recruiting advantage.

So have I missed something on Fizer? What other than being an alum makes him a candidate? I'm not against it all, just didn't realize he was coaching or interested in it. Like you said, great person, great Cyclone, easy sell.

Why not Sam Mack? Former Cyclone and former NBA player.

That would be a terrible idea. You can not be serious.
No I just think its funny that people just throw out random former players names regardless if they are in coaching or the basketball profession. I suppose we couldn't go wrong by hiring Fizer if he brings Jesus with him!

If were just restricting this to former Cyclones who played in the NBA, how about Loren Meyer and Jamaal Tinsley. Loren works with the big guys and recruits Iowa farm boys, Tinsley recruits New York City and teaches everybody how to dribble.

So TJ didn't learn how to be a head coach in all those years sitting on the sideline? Now he needs an experienced former head coach to help him along. That seems silly to me. He needs assistants that can recruit.

A former HC and Jeff Grayer would be cool with me provided he delivers Miles Bridges.

Fizer is laughable.

On twitter he favorites everything tying him to ISU and possible coaching. He also tweeted at Otz the other day to get ahold of him. I don't have any knowledge of what, if any, coaching he's done in the past, but with as much experience as he has playing the game & the person he portrays, it would be worth considering at the least.
