Duh, of course, you’re right, I’ve messed this up completely. I just went with the four byes and forgot the 5 highest conference champs are in.

I’m stupid.
And I’m STILL wrong, dammit … it’d be BYU at Ohio State.

You know what? I’m giving up. I’ll just wait for the CFP poll on Tuesday before I embarrass myself anymore.

the other thing that's ridiculous is the Big 12 champ is going to end up as the 12-seed because the media is dying to give it to Boise St (who has played nobody except losing to Oregon) just to stick it to an ultra-competitive Big 12.

and I wonder why I'm losing so much interest in college football.

What’s really nuts is there’s definitely a possibility that Iowa State, BYU, Colorado, and Arizona State could all tie with 7-2 conference records … and Iowa State wouldn’t have played any of the other three.

Conferences over 12 members are simply unworkable when it comes to determining a champion. You might as well use tock-paper-scissors to get your CCG teams.
Yup. And that's another reason this sucks for non B10 and SEC schools. Your only guarantee is to win your conference and there is a decent amount of scheduling luck that has to happen for that.

Imo they want to give the BSU RB a bigger platform.

BSU also seems to be able to ride out their hey day from 15+ years ago and beating OU in the Fiesta Bowl to remain media darlings.

I still think ESPN holds grudges against the Big 12 for daring to survive its "eliminate the Big 12" plan. We all know the "Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC" that they facilitated was supposed to be a silent coup, but instead the Big 12 caught wind of it and exposed it.

I mean, from the analytics I've seen not associated with ESPN it shows that the Big 12 is the second-best conference behind the SEC, but yet the conference as a whole is treated as if it's the worst of the P4 by a wide margin. I mean, even the ACC doesn't get the disrespect the Big 12 does.

the fact that we're 8-2 and only rated #22 is beyond ridiculous, though (that said, when I look at the ratings and the only 3-loss team ahead of us is South Carolina is also kind of ridiculous - in the superconference era nobody plays anybody anymore).
They need to figure out some sort of advanced metrics for ranking. Things just don’t look right.

There will never be advanced metrics for rankings. Both the AP and Coach's polls are simply dozens to hundreds of individual polls combined and, based on a point system from those individual rankings, create a composite ranking. That is never going to change... but I will also agree it is also a stupid way to do it because the vast majority of those polled don't pay attention to teams outside of the ones they have any kind of vested interest in.

I have a hard time seeing why Penn State and Texas are ranked above BYU. I also think a Boise State and SMU deserve a bit of a bump. Penn State seems to be getting an enormous bump from a close loss to Ohio State, but Boise State’s only loss is a close one at Oregon. Why is Penn State 4th and Boise State 12th?

probably the same reason the Big 10 and SEC are going to get 4 teams each while the rest fight over the scraps. I mean, you had the **** Dinich on SC last night visibly upset that Tennessee was going to get screwed out of this... literally actively campaigning that the SEC deserves 5 spots.

We had that once and everyone bitched about that too.
The complaints weren't the BCS formula, it was the fact that we only had the title game. That gave us years where we had more than 2 undefeateds, or years where the top two teams were from the same conference. A playoff with teams selected by BCS formula instead of a committee would be much better.

A 2 loss Notre Dame, with one of those losses coming from an undefeated Army team is what could really screw up a cannibalized Big 12.

well, there also was the complaint that the formulas would be changed every year to increase the odds of "desired matchups" in the championship game, but yes - the biggest complaint by far was it was just the one game.

and yes - the BCS computers are by far more desirable than the selection committee that places eye test and $$$ above everything else.
