i was really impressed how petersen filled in for bailey. will that make it easier for the staff to redshirt him this year and have him come back full strength? didnt i read that he had surgery on his leg. i for one would love to have him back for next year with lima and johnson leaving to graduation

It's time to put a redshirt on him and let him get healthy. He'll have plenty of chances to break records next season.

I don’t think one game is enough to say we’re going to be fine without Bailey. Losing that caliber of a player is a problem. Especially since IMO it seems like we haven’t been getting as much pressure as we did last season, but I may be wrong on that; so someone feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

But if he can just come back for a bowl game is it worth it? It doesn't sound like if he is able to come back this year it will be any too soon.

Bailey is good, but Peterson has shown through the first 5 games that he is going to be a stud. Before Saturday Peterson has been getting a good amount of playing time and playing really well. Then add in that he is a special teams animal. We are in good hands with Peterson.

I am all for Bailey redshirting just because I want to see him smash the sack record and think it will be cool for him and his brother to have the same Senior day.

What exactly was the injury/surgery? I think that would tell us a lot about if he'd be able to come back this season.

There was a play in the game where he came flying through the line like a missle and missed the QB by just inches. Would have been a 8 yard loss at the least. I figured it was a LB on a blitz because of the speed he came through the line. Going to be a real thorn in the side of Big 12 offenses for a long time.

If Bailey comes back and helps us beat OU and/or Texas, I’m good with him not redshirting.

Just nice to have the option if needed.

I agree with this. The Baylor loss is going to hurt, but if you have the chance to make the B12 Championship with Bailey, I think you have go for it now.

He's been flying around on special teams, I remember the first few times , I didn't think it was him, you don't see too many DL making plays on kick coverage. I know there was a lot of McDonald hype going in to the season and I think he'll do well now that he's back on the DL but Petersen is the future at that spot IMO. Anyone know why he didn't RS last year, from cyclones.com:

one of four true freshmen to not redshirt, playing in four games on special teams … tallied eight tackles, including two vs. Washington State in the Alamo Bowl.

Because he was to good to keep off the field, especially when Eni got hurt.
