Barnett over Jantz

Ok let's get this straight. Yes Steele was mighty disappointing last night. And I put most of the blame on him and Messingham. But Barnett is not the answer, both Qb's are not good. There is no better option, there is only a worse option IMO. Yes the game may have been different had Barnett played, but with the way the oline looked yesterday I don't think it would have mattered. End rant.

Is it time to ditch the spread is my question?

We could have Walden come in to help us implement the wishbone.

As I write this, I depressingly realize that the early 90s ISU wishbone was a more effective offense than what we have now.

Jantz is probably the worst starting QB we've had since Bob Utter was under center in the Walden wishbone days.

We are still a 22 point a game team, just like last year, even when our defense scoeres half our points.

I like the spread but we don't have the qb to run it well. Barnett is a mediocre passer but he makes better decisions than Steele does. He does a much better job with the zone read ... Steele just looks lost jb is a more instinctive runner

I like how some people still think Steele is the answer and Barnett isn't good because of like 10 plays in a single game. Does anyone remember Barnett was the one who led us to a whooping of tech, beat okie state, and Kansas. He knows how to manage a game, he's level headed, and he knows what he is capable of. Steele is none of those things. I want an intelligent qb who knows his limits, not one who presses every little thing which leads to dumb turnovers.

As I recall, he was pretty decent in relief in the A&M game too.

Here is the problem I have is Coach Rhoads says he wants players to play smart. Well coach Jantz is definitely not doing that and has not done that for well most of his career. So put a QB in there (Barnett) who is better at making decisions.

I agree. JB should get a shot if Steele struggles again next week. And I mean pull him in the first quarter if needed. As a coach, you have to show confidence and that you believe in your starter and I suspect this is what CPR will do. But after last night's showing, I also believe CPR knows that he has to have a short leash with him next week at TCU. I honestly think we will see a much better showing offensively. Mess needs to make adjustments and use our RB's speed to hit holes quickly and f*** the sweep play.

We really need to give SJ another shot at the NCAA turnover record for a single season??? Make the change now, and let TCU game plan all week for Jantz. Not that there is a ton of difference but I do think JB has more confidence, and I believe is a gamer.

Coach Rhoads also says the best way to win a game is not lose it... I believe he is going against that as well when he is playing a quarterback who's best skill is turning the ball over.

how do they (oc, jantz, team) not realize we have four running backs who are capable of 100 yard games a piece? I use to love the option read when barnett ran it because it was ran to the T (read correctly). Get the ball to the running backs, we are wasting talent by faking it to them and having a guy in jantz who cant even hang on to the freakin ball.

I don't think it really mattered too much who played QB last night, the way the oline played. Add in the way we called plays, we didn't have much of a chance. In fact I'm not sure I've seen a worse half of offensive play calling. We didn't throw a pass across the middle until 3rd and 8 with about 3 minutes left in the first half.

I didn't think we ran wishbone until Utter was done and the kid from Nebraska was here. Or Utter ran it his final season. Todd Doxon I believe was the QB that took over the wishbone duties.
