An oversight: I should have included one more OU running back, who clearly fit my prior description, and a name I was familiar with but don't recall ever seeing play:

Steve Owens (1966-1969)
... ranked as the 6th best all-time OU running back

At OU, and more consecutive than overlapping:

Greg Pruitt (1969-1972)
Joe Washington (1972-1975)
Billy Sims (1975-1979)

... ranked as the 5th, 3rd, and 2nd best all-time OU running backs, respectively, here:

I would love to see a high profile P5 program try to run the triple option. Army, Navy, AF and even Ga Tech have had some success over the last decade, but would be fun if a P5 in a recruiting rich area would try to run.

Back in the 70's/80's it was a blast to watch the Sooners with their great backs, but more so the outstanding QB's who made the split second decision on who carried the ball. Thomas Lott, JC Watts, Jamelle Holieway made the triple option an exciting offense.
We ran the triple option in high school. :)

They were two of the best running backs in our area, but one game I recall, the opponent's RB rushed for something like 240 yards, and ours rushed for 310 on 1/3 of the carries.

Someone could start a separate thread for Best ISU RB Rooms in History (roster overlap) or sequential.

Wouldn't be on the same level as those, for the most part, but would be interesting.

Davis & Davis is obvious. Trying to think of some others.

DM and Breece is good sequential example.

Mike Strachan (72-73) to Wingender/Williams ["The WW Express"] (74-75) to Dexter Green (76-78).

Joe Henderson (87-88) to Blaise Bryant (89-90).

Troy (95-96) to Darren (96-99) to Ennis (98-01).

Not exactly sure.
They were part of a killer stretch with roster overlap.

I.M. Hipp (1977-79)
Jarvis Redwine (1979-80)
Roger Craig (1979-82)
Mike Rozier (1981-83)

Much as I despise NU, can't argue with its RB legends.
Didn’t they have a fullback that was very good for the niners at that time also?

Don't forget Kene. Mike Warren did win a big xii award as well before DM rested him.

Then after the Davis' you had Ennis Haywood and Wagner/Rutland to get to Stevie Hicks. RIP EH and SH.

On a somewhat related note, I wasn't aware Greg Coleman Jr died in September.
