It's not beyond the realm of possibility that Two Face is still alive. Eckhart has said that he would be very interested in reprising his role. Maybe that was the original plan with Heath coming back as the Joker, but to be honest, I expect Two Face back.

I predict the implementation of the Riddler, and the poster who suggested Robin Williams may not be too far off. He was either very interested in or was a finalist in the Joker role.

And I just want to say that Heath's performance pretty much blew me away. He was sadistic, creepy, and just a great villain. It's sad that he won't be able to do it again. It will be very interesting to see what they do with that character in the next. Re-casting would be a mistake of epic proportions, in my opinion. I could see them saying that he's institutionalized, but I'm not sure. I read that there were some other scenes shot with Heath that didn't make the Dark Knight and could be used in the next one.

At first I thought you were all insane for predicting Catwoman despite that line by Freeman in the movie. However, with Rachel dead, maybe they would do something like that to get a woman with a big role again. I wouldn't be crazy about it though.

I hope they have a really good long search for a replacement for ledger. Ledger was absolutely amazing in that movie

Which is why they shouldn't re-cast it. I think there would be outrage. It's not like this was a Katie Holmes performance.

There is no way Nolan tries to recast that role, Ledger's performance was absolutely unmatchable.

I wonder if Heath would still be getting the same accolades if he were still alive. I mean, almost all artists (and acting is a form of art) are much better after they're dead.

I think Jack was one helluva Joker. I don't like either guy as that role better than the other - both definitely entertained.

I also agree that they could bring Two Face back because of the line when Batman was holding the mob guy off the building "If you wanted the threaof killing me you should be holding me off a taller building" "Who saying I am trying to kill you" or something like that. But at the end when they fell off the build it was from about the same height or so it seemed.

In order to get a female/love interest in there, because that seems to be a focus of Nolan's in the last two films, I wonder the possibility of Ra's Al Ghoul surviving and having Tatyana Al Ghoul come in as Batman's new love interest

I think your spot on by saying that. Maybe its a way to honor such a good actor, but I think its a valid point. Of course you have something to compare it to, and he seemed to match up very well which deserves the attention he's getting for it, dead or alive.

Any Joker that isn't Ledger will immediately be rejected. They wont even try, but if they do have some film of Ledger that they didn't use in this movie, I could see them putting it in the next one.

New hints of The Riddler in Nolan’s Bat-world? « Blue Space

I think it is pretty clear that it will be the Riddler and Catwomen. In order for the next movie to work, The Riddler has to be absolutely insane. 10 times crazier than the Joker. I'd still like to see more scarecrow, I love his character. Two-face is dead. If he comes back to life, then people will realize he turned evil and he will no longer be the "White Knight"

Batman Begins was based off on the comics Batman: Year one. The Dark Knight was based off Batman: Long Halloween, which was the sequel to year one. I don't think it's to crazy to believe that Batman 3 will come from the sequel to the Long Halloween, which is called Dark Victory.

I need to watch Jack do it again because it's been so long, and I'm admittedly not a big movie buff, but that was one of the best performances I've seen. The Joker was crazy, and you knew it. His mannerisms, the clap in the jail cell, his Harvey Dent button that he wore in the hospital, him mouthing "six" while in the interrogation room, etc. And the clap and him mouthing that weren't in the sc ript; that was all Heath.

Why is the word sc ript censored?

All of the mouth noises is what got me, the constant licking/smacking was done well. Also pulled off the "watch me make this pencil disappear" bit.

Like I said, I loved him in the movie, I'm not trying to take anything away from him. Just an observation.

I believe Ledger would be getting the exact same amount of attention for his performance in this role were he still alive. That was one of the greatest villain performances I've ever seen. I mean, the part when he's walking out of the hospital and his magic trick...? He gets the audience to like him! Ledger's Joker is the absolute personification of chaos. Everyone (characters in the movie) believe he's crazy but you can tell the Joker is well aware of all that he does
