are students "not allowed" in, or is it that there's just not many on campus because classes are out?

If I remember when I was in school (2006 - 2010) the student ticket package doesn't include games during the holiday break. So the AD sells those tickets to the general public during that time.

It'd be a bad business decision.

They're putting everything into driving subscriptions and a game at this level will do just that.

No its not, a bowl game will get better ratings than most every college basketball game at this point in the season...maybe aside from a top 10 matchup between UNC and Duke.

I phrased it poorly lol. I'm just meaning they should just have the student section continue to be student tickets during break and not turn into GA seating
What percentage of tickets normally would be used by students on break? Or even this year? Maybe 50% of the students show imo.

Best to make it available cheap as an add-on, then GA the rest. It is a great way to get people who otherwise would not make it to Hilton, hooked on going.

If anything, they sold them too cheap to the students. At $5 you'll have no-shows, whereas even though it is a sunk cost, at $20 more students would follow through.

I suppose it could be a massive conspiracy and subterfuge to create confusion about the intention of our 10th man. Or it could be the flu. If he’s got what my kids had 2 weeks ago, you don’t want him anywhere near the team.
No, you’re right, probably a cover-up.

we had a game against Kansas I believe for the 2018-19 season, in the middle of winter break and we had practically a full student section. I imagine there's enough local students in the Ames/DSM area that would go to this game even though they're on break

This is true. My daughter is a sophomore and can confirm being on break isn't stopping anything.

Slings basic doesn't. Need sports add on.

Iowa State/the Big 12 has been playing basketball and football on the U for like 15 years... Sling Basic/bare bones packages isn't a valid excuse.

With the existing break student ticket policy? If so, then what are we talking about here?

I'm not sure exactly what the policy was but I was a student at the time and I remember having to go to the ticket office and get something. I honestly don't recall if I paid for anything though lol

Taking this thread a different direction- I think this will be a heck of a game. Hilton will be rockin. I know this- we will play our a** off and I will be a proud cyclone win or lose. My biggest concern - we are not great on offense and they are very good on defense. We may struggle scoring. But, we play great defense - which will always keep us in games. Fouls could be big too. I am guessing we will be 5-6 points dogs in this one at home, but do not bet against us. I would not be surprised if 55 points wins the game. Go Clones!

Really? Iowa was favored in Hilton by 5, I'd guess the spread will be closer to 10.

I think that was due to people believing Iowa State was a fluke. I bet it’s closer to 7.5-8.5. When Baylor went to Oregon it closed at 7.5.

One thing that gives me hope is the Baylor has only played one road game so far - at Oregon - and they had to come from behind to win. The environment in Hilton will be many times worse for them than the environment in Oregon was. Also, when you're playing the #1 team in the nation, you're playing with little to lose.

Yeah, ISU has moved up on a lot of the analytic rankings since then and people are starting to view them differently. I would think like you said or maybe just a little lower, say 6.5.

I'd hate to be an odds maker for this game. With this being the first game after Christmas break, I think there's a good chance that one or both of these teams will be affected by COVID issues.

They only beat VCU, who has a similar ranked defense, by 8 on a neutral court and VCU has twice as bad as offense on KenPom as ISU. Looks like the difference was the FT line and Baylor had 17 offensive boards.
