For some reason he is this year's whipping boy. I have seen a lot of posters blame him for a "me attitude" and "this isn't UNLV" type comments.

Not sure why the hate. If picking up one intentional foul was horrible, then we've rarely had a great player. I'm pretty sure Kane and Ejim picked up a few flagrant/intentional/technicals in their time.

BDJ's stats through 4 games:

14.8 ppg (2nd on the team to Georges)
7.3 rebounds/game (2nd on the team to Georges)
2.8 assists/game (3rd behind Monte and Georges)
1.5 steals/game (Leads the team by a long shot)
1 block/game (Leads the team)

He's also shooting 89% from the FT line.

I just don't get the hate for him.

Agree. Many complain that he is not as good as Kane. But, if you compare the first 3 games for both, their production is comparable with Kane scoring 1 more point/gm, 3 more assists/gm (expected since he played point), and about .3 more rebounds/gm. BDJ has 1.5 more blocks/gm (Kane with 0), and .67 more steals per game. Both had 2.67 turnovers/gm.

Kane: 13.66 ppg, 7.67 reb pg, 5.67 asst pg, 0 blocks, and .33 steals pg.

Of course there aren't enough games to make an accurate assessment of BDJ vs. Kane. But, then it's also true that there aren't enough games to make an accurate assessment of BDJ's game at this point.

Also, he was the only player on the team who was athletic enough to match Maryland's athleticism. Monte went up against someone taller, bigger, as quick, and with a better shot (at least last night). Our bigs weren't effective against Maryland's taller/bigger players.

We need McKay ASAP.

This board needs a whipping boy at all times and new guys seem to always be the target. People on here were ragging on Kane for hero ball or lacking composure or "body language" while he was almost always composed and put the team on his shoulders when we were having bad games.

Unfortunately I think the irrational expectations for Thomas are not as bad but still remain. Look out if he goes cold for a few games.

People are overthinking this. Maybe we had a bad game early in the year on a 20 hour turnaround. And maybe replacing the conf player of the year and another guy who was even better takes a little time to figure out.

Said the same thing last night when people were ripping on him for that reason. BDJ was more than fine last night. If we even have one person step up and play like BDJ did last night, ISU wins that game. How many assists did Niang, Long, Thomas, or Hogue have last night? Oh, ok, Bryce was the only one who was a "black hole" even though he got 17&7.

People ragged on Kane, Lucious, Allen, Royce(IS HE SWEATING??!?!?) during the non-con and early conference season and by the end they were all beloved players who were all-in. I have no doubt this season will be no different.

People definitely have short memories. Did we all forget how bad Korie Lucious was in the non-conference 2 years ago? BDJ has had a few issues sure, but he's light years ahead of some of our other impact transfers, with the exception of probably Kane.

And, his production through three games is very comparable to Kane's at this point, and his defensive numbers are actually better than Kane's. (Blocks/steals). Everything I've heard from the team and staff has been about how well he's fitting in with the team and how unselfish he is. Tough call, but I guess I'll side with the staff/team vs. people on message boards who are far more ignorant of the facts.

Now his technical foul....that was a bush league move, hopefully that's not a preview of the his attitude. It was the reaction a little kid has when things aren't going their way, def not what we want from a guy who should be senior leader

Exactly. Major talent and we need him. I'm sure Fred didn't want to stage him during the game, but had some teaching moments behind closed doors after the game.

If you think BDJ was the problem last night you are oblivious, ignorant, or both. We get blown out if he isn't on the floor.

One sign that Bryce is not fitting in ... he's just not whining to the refs enough when he gets called for a foul. Dustin and Naz need to work with him on the throw-the-hands-in-the-air-and-look-around-wide-eyed-with-astonishment move after getting whistled for one. Maybe watch some Ejim game tape as well.

I liked Morris' Marcus Smart-worthy flail after he was bumped by a forearm. Every time I see a player do that in a game I hear a little voice in my head yell "Sniper! Get down!" There was an awful lot of ranting and complaining about fouls and no-calls by the entire team last night. It was pretty team-wide.

At least we only lost by 9 and not 32. It's nice to be able to put up more than 50 points in a game....

1) BDJ is more athletic than Kane
2) He's a bigger head case than Stinson.

He really needs to take a look at Curtis' career path and decide if he wants to be a 10 year star in the D-League without a single call up.

He's very new to the team. It's not fair to not give him time to adjust. I'd be a little more concerned if it were February.

This. I believe Fred can help him know when to go Superman and when to pass the ball. We need him to do both, just at the appropriate times. And, as others have said, he wasn't the main problem or the only problem last night. the whole team lost their composure and was out of synch. We'll get better.

We need some help in the backcourt, but BDJ is playing as good as anyone on the team. He and Edozie were the only ones that matched Maryland physically last night.

There are two differently kinds of flopping. Selling contact and flailing to make it appear that there was contact. Morris did get an extended arm/elbow to the chin and he tried to sell it. I don't have a problem with it because everyone does it in some form. Smart though continuously flops and tries to sell contact that never even happened. That's completely different.

I get the point of these forums is to spark conversation and voice your opinion. However, I have seen a lot whining on here lately, makes our fan base look like a bunch fare weather hawk fans, and I am starting to get nauseous reading this all.

At the end of the day, you whining isn’t going to change anything, and if the players happen to read this garbage you all write about them then it will likely make them play worse. There are reasons the guys we have playing are playing and they don’t need to be know to us. We have the BEST coach in college basketball, he WILL find a way to win game.

Great post!

There is a reason why our fans are called whiners. After the 'bama game - you pick the thread - the complaints about the officials and some of the players has been almost laughable. We lost. Teams lose. Get over it. As many have said, a loss in November, especially if the team learns from it, is a good loss - better than in February or March.

Other than last year, Fred's teams always took until Christmas to gel. They were then ready to take on the B12 with a vengeance - which they did. Let's face it, we have 2 transfers that will take time to fit it, and another starting in December WHO will also take time to fit in (why do you think Thomas looked so good in his first game back while Nader looked a bit lost?)

I understand the frustration but may I suggest you go back to last year when we won our first 13 games and then hit a bad patch. Posters all over had us finished for the season. And look what happened. Bottom line, we have a great coach -so let him coach. We have a very good team - maybe even a great team - so let them play. They will be just fine - and quit the whining. It is unbecoming of Cyclone basketball.

BDJ has been great. Yes everyone had an off day in KC, but they will bounce back and learn from this.
