Unless he did something in the locker room at halftime, I don't think his 1st half play should have warrented a benching. I'm guessing something physical, but I am hoping he gets it going. I think he has gotten a bad rap from some fans.

Much as many here would like, he wasn't playing any worse than other non-McKay players in the first half. I'm thinking an injury is just as likely as any sort of drama.

If we benched guys for first half play, McKay, Custer and the Greek would have had a hard time defending the entire second half.

He's out over his skis a little bit.

He and Nader both need to embrace the old John Woodenism, "Be quick but don't hurry".

Yeah I'm starting to think he is nursing an injury. While I don't think he has played particularly good, Hoiberg seems to have a fast trigger on him the last two games.

I think we need him to make a run in March. He is a very good defender and rebounder even when his shot is off.

I agree, we need him if we're going to make a deep run. Without him playing, or playing well, we're a very good team. With him playing well, we have the potential to make it past the Sweet 16, even if his main contribution is rebounding, which he can do very well.

Hoiberg did mention on the call in show a few weeks back something to the effect of "he ****** me off"

I think his leash is short, but I also trust CFH is being fair and building him up as needed.

Fred seems to go with what works...Had Edozie came out as a starter last night in a flurry, he would have played more. I with many, Fred has a lot of learning to do (he's still a very young coach in terms of experience), but glad he stuck with his plan...I honestly thought just put in shooters and go all Grinnell on them second half. :)

I wonder if there was something else going on. Museburger said something around the 13 min mark in second half that he wasn't coming back in. Seemed really odd for a statement like that with so much time left.

Well hell Museburger wasn't sure where he was at half the time, wow he is really terrible

I imagine he isn't 100% and he is very emotional guy and I think he took the first half play very hard because it was senior night. It was also hard for Fred to go away from the guys that made the comeback

If it's an injury issue I hope he and Naz both get at least close to 100% real quick. I wonder if either of them will sit out Saturday in order to have them at full go for the conference tournament.

During the BU game they were stretching him out after half instead of warming up. I would guess he's having back spasms. His time has gone down since he landed hard in the first half of that game. He was a stud defending that night.
A small injury is a likely explanation but my first thought was that he was in trouble for going under multiple screens while he was guarding Hield which clearly didn't work for us.

I echo the sentiments of posters above that having BDJ playing his best raises this team's ceiling immensely.

I hope he keeps his head up and keeps playing hard even though Hoiberg apparently chose to sit him in that second half. BDJ firing on all cylinders and engaged is one of our best players and hardest to stop. Plus he rebounds and defends hard.

Like someone else above said, with him, I think we can go farther in the Tournament than without him. I don't think our ceiling is as high if BDJ's on the bench. He has that much potential to change the game.

That said, glad to see Hoiberg stick with the team that was rolling last night. He often is religious about following the same substitution patterns over and over (and takes "hot" players out). I think it's the NBA-mentality in him. That said, he managed that second half well and just let the guys play who were playing well.

^^ Agree

BDJ can really play defense when he wants to. Decent footwork, size, and those long arms. He and Houge are our "stoppers" (I am using that term kinda lightly here). And you need two of those guys if one is tired or in foul trouble.

And BDJ can do things on offense, he just needs to be patient more, not try to carry the team on his back.

If he is playing well, this team is a lot more difficult to deal with.

Seems everyone on this team is going to get a bad rep from fans at some point. I just feel bad for the guy who has a bad game in the last one we lose this season.

BDJ is capable of hitting some big shots. His role has changed but I hope he still understands in Fred's system it's not just the starters who matter. You're all right -he'll be clutch in some upcoming games.

I think for most of us BDJ is really hard to read. His demeanor seems distant and he seems disinterested at times, but I wonder if he's a guy that struggles with big emotional swings. It appears to me that he struggles staying even keel. His highs are super high and his lows appear super low.

I really want the best for him and I hope that CFH can right his ship, not just selfishly for the season, but for his life. His moments of having such close positive mentors is getting smaller and smaller. Life outside of basketball and college can be harsh and I just hope he can get the tools he needs to be successful in life.

There were times this season where I truly believed, that talent-wise, he was the best player on the team. Hope he gets his mojo back. We can be really good when everyone is playing well.

He looked very sleepy in the second half. I wondered what was up myself! Hope things are OK and he sees lots of productive time in kc.
