Berryman was at the rec just now playing basketball on "court 1".

Ahh, court 1 - so many fond memories of watching guys argue over the score. In the four years that I played ball at the rec I'm not sure that more than a handful of games were ever actually finished on court 1.:realmad:

Those were the good ol days.

See here's my issue is why is he still in Ames? He's out of eligibility and he's not attending school so if it were me and I had a reputation that he does I'd find somewhere to get a clean start at and not somewhere that everyone in town knows who I am and are keeping an extra eye on.

He made some mistakes, some big mistakes at that and I think we showed more mercy than we should have by letting him back on the team after the felony charge. We've discussed this to death before too but the matter of fact is he's been given several 2nd chances and blown every one of them and I would not mind it if he just disappeared and found another place to straighten his life up at.

I saw a guy once in my section who was walking around with his sweatshirt tucked in to his snowpants! Can you believe that guy? What a moron.

Mwhahahaha! I've seen this man you speak of, drinking a strawberry smoothy and shoveling popcorn into his mouth. He alost got into a fight with a guy because he kept asking the guy to read him the program.

If he hadn't tried out for the Bengals, he would have two years of eligibility left. He played in 03' and 05'. It was scary what he did against TCU. I have no problem with him.

Why is that your issue? Jason probably still has a lot of friends in Ames and likes it here, why should he have to leave?

No kidding! The guy is there supporting cyclone athletics and you judge him like you've done no wrong. No offense to you older white guys but I am sure you dress like a bunch of dorks. Not just to pick on you Hos, but that picture?!? Good thing you are already married. Just because his culture is a little different doesn't mean his style is ugly, it's just different.
He doesn't play for ISU anymore, he is a fan.

If you want him gone maybe you should hand out fliers to everyone in the crowd who has committed a crime in their life that says "Get the *U** out of here, criminal!" I am sure there are more than a few. No place for those kinds of people in our little circle.

Thread hijack...

I had a brush with greatness on "court 1". Two of my buddies and I got asked to play in a game on court 1 (this was shortly after the rec center was completed). Paul Doerrfeld was there, and some others from the "in" crowd. There may have been some coaches watching or something...anyway there were a couple of guys who were trying real hard to impress somebody that was watching.

One of my buddies and I were playing down in the post and guarding one of those guys trying to impress whoever was watching. He was big. We were playing pretty good "D" on him and frustrating him. I think we put a double team on him and blocked his shot or something. He got real mad, threw a wild punch and made some contact with me. I didn't see it coming. He was restrained pretty quickly before he could hit me again. His teammates chewed him out for awhile, and he was calmer for the rest of the game.

My brush with greatness...I don't remember if Paul was on our team for that game, but he came over and told me that the guy was a jerk and that I was doing a good job guarding him. We did play a few games on Paul's team.

I never played again on court 1 after that day. Somebody mentioned later that the guy who threw the punch was trying to walk-on for Orr, but I don't know if it's true.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled Berryman sighting updates...

Berryman still has friends in Ames and he started his family here. He told me he was going to be around for awhile. Nothing wrong with that.

What a great society we live in that we judge people as "gang bangers" by the clothes they are wearing. Makes you wonder why any kid from the inner city would want to come to Ames, IA to be judged as a gang banger simply by the clothes they are wearing.

Amen. seriously. How the HELL can an Iowa State fan say anything like that about the Davis brothers...you all are talking like these guys played for iowa. These guys were both really good RB's for us (Troy being a PHENOMENAL one.) I would love to have either of these guys back running the ball for us.

As for Berryman, I can understand why people don't like what he did...but he is not necessarily a bad person, good people make stupid decisions, god knows I have. It's not like he raped or murdered. He did fight and steal, which are bad things, but he payed his debt to society, it's over with: GET OVER IT. He hasn't done anything since and he has moved on with his life, maybe everyone else should too. If he wants to attend ISU games for the rest of his life, I AM ALL FOR IT!!

Yeah he was sitting like 10 rows in front of us. What a moron. We all laughed when we saw him stand up in his thug jacket.

Crap like this is what makes people in Iowa look like f'ing hicks to everyone outside of the state. I have friends that have done way worse than what Berryman did (dealing drugs, armed car-jacking) and they dress like a "normal person" does so you wouldn't have a second thought when looking at them. I've got no problem with Jason being at the game. Hey, here's a thought, I bet if Jack Trice were still alive and came to a game as a 22 year old that he would wear something that would make someone say the same comment, and we named a stadium after him. Nobody has any idea what kind of skeletons are in the closets of those that we hold in high regard.

All right, I will get off my soapbox now.

Dress like a bunch of dorks? Why because I had a candid moment when Cy walked over when I was getting ready to go into a game? That is pretty judgemental of you to think just because you are a student you dress better. Want to compare what I wear on a daily basis to what you do? Attacking the older and wiser growd is not going to get you far when you leave to comfort of mom's paid for college room.

Jason Berryman has paid his price, and that's that. He's a young guy, made some big mistakes, and he paid for them in a big way. I hope that he has his life going in the right direction, and I wish him well. What's done is done.

I agree. Jason Berryman EARNED his scholarship. He screwed up.....more than once. Let it go. Berryman has more than paid the price for his actions. Pick the log out of your own eye, instead of taking the speck out of Berryman's.

i.e. You live in a glass house. Don't throw stones.

Yeah I saw Berryman out on Friday night at sips (and if you want to know what h was wearing he had on a camo jacket, I don't know how he was wearing that it was hot as hell in there). Then I saw him in his car at Kum & go after the bars were out and the police were harassing him again.

I'm an older white guy, and my jacket is red with a discreet ISU logo on it (it will distress some of you greatly to know that my jacket is trimmed in navy). I guess that does make me pretty dorky.

One way or the other, and whether you intend it to or not, what you wear makes a statement about you. I wonder what Berryman is trying to tell us by wearing a white jacket covered with green dollar signs???

What does Berryman do for a job? He is a has been now, and to me it looked like he was trying to relive the failed glory that he could have had. He needs to move on with his life and try do something positive, because from where I sat, he just looked like a fool. I don't want to see him at ISU, to me he is what is wrong with college athletics. Someone who does not take his gifts seriously, and fritters away a chance to make a better life for himself. Yeah sure maybe he learned from his mistakes like I have learned from mine in the past, but to me it looks like he is still trying to live through the ISU football team which he has no place being around anymore.

The other issue I had was he was sitting there chatting with recruits. I can 100% guarantee he is not the face Chizik wants recruits to associate with ISU football.

Time to move on Berryman.

I have no question with Jason enjoying ISU games or staying in Ames. I am surprised though that with the sentence he received for the $4 and cell phone caper, that he wouldn't say to hell with Iowa and start over. He must be telling recruits that there are a lot of good things about Ames, Iowa, and ISU.

Best of luck, Jason.

Are you serious? he has as mush right as you do to be at games. He probably has friends that are still on the team playing, so what he can't go watch his friends?

So when I go to an ISU game and wear my letter jacket and stand on the sidelines am I trying to relive my glory days? The answer is no I am not, I am proud that I was part of ISU football and am supporting them. I

Yes he screwed up, but he has paid his price (jail time and being kicked off the team) and has EVERY right to go watch an ISU game.
