Just saw Jake Trotter of ESPN tweet this quote from Clint Trickett, WVU QB.

Trickett: "Iowa State is the best 2-9 football team in the history of football." He says they should be 8-3.

Since he said we should only have three losses... Which one would he pick from this list as a win for ISU?

Baylor... 71-7 loss
Oklahoma... 48-10 loss
Kansas State... 41-7 loss
Oklahoma State... 58-27 loss

Maybe he meant 7-4.

It made me go through my head for each game and I thought of 2 that we should have and 2 that we could have. The other 5 games were not winnable. TTU was clearly a fluke to be within a TD and the other losses speak for themselves.

We should have beat Texas and TCU and we could have beat UNI and Turds.

Any researcher bored enough to actually compare ISU to the other 2-9 teams in history? No? Ok then.

Holgorsen said the same thing, he opened his presser with, 'Iowa State is the best 2-9 team in the country." I'm sure that's where Trickett got the thought.

I mean, logically, it's not an inaccurate statement. Iowa State is probably better than Virginia, UCONN, UAB, UTEP, Eastern Michigan, Kentucky and Air Force. But Dana going to Dana.

Jack Whitver mentioned in a call in show after a game, that a big turn around is possible. We a young and were in a lot of games that we should have won.

In 1999, Jack Whitver Cyclone team was 4-7 and lost a lot of close games, the next year they were 9-3. I never pulled up the individual seasons to compare, but I think we are close if we can get and stay healthy and have a more experienced team.

My Chevette is the best Chevette in my neighborhood. Unfortunately, all my neighbors seem to be driving a Mercedes. I guess I do have that one neighbor with a Yugo but his wife is a supermodel.

The big question here is what changed between 1999 and 2000? Did anything else change besides the players growing by one year?
Being serious here.

I see that OU and Texas were not on the schedule.
I believe we got a new O coordinator

It's crazy to look back and see how many points ISU use to score in a time where high scores weren't the norm.

It was also a down year for the Big XII & EIU. Our three losses were blowouts. Similar to KU's miracle Orange Bowl run. I'm thinking something more along the lines of our reversal of fortune in 2004 & 2009 may be possible. Both seasons involved new offensive coordinators. [nudge nudge hint hint]
