Best bars if not tailgating?

Friends will be in town for the Texas game. They have me wondering where the best pre-game bars are.

Tip Top is the only thing that comes to mind. Is it still open? Anything else get popular in the last 25 years?

Bar hop on Main Street. Whisky River, Sweet Caroline’s. Sportsman’s London Underground. Torrrent Brewery is a block North of Main. Order Pizza from Great Plains and take it to Torrent.

We are doing a progressive tailgate the TCU game and will be doing something similar. Did it a couple years ago and had blast!

Been to Tip Top a couple of times when inclement weather, but not in last few years. If you go, try to get there early. Small bar.

We have also gone to Mucky Duck pub on Duff. Decent Bloody Mary’s and they serve breakfast.

Tell them they don't need to tailgate at bars like they would in Austin. Iowa State has real tailgating.

OK, that sounds like a lot of fun. I'd have a hard time not actually tailgating, but this would be close.

Sweet Caroline’s is going to be an awesome spot on main st. Hidden gem while it’s still relatively new to Ames.

Thanks for the responses. I, too, questioned why they wouldn't want to tailgate. Alas, it's out of my control. I won't be there, so have no skin in the game.
