For breakfast or lunch I highly recommend Perk Up Cafe at 70th and Douglas in Urbandale. Great food, very reasonably priced. For dinner Flying Mango or the original Gino's.
Don't want to start a new thread for this, but what is everyone's go to for delivery food in Des Moines?
Not a "place" to eat but Thelma's Ice Cream Sandwiches that you can get at the Farmer's Market or at Hy-Vees and Gateway Market are really good. They even have a "spicy" Ice Cream sandwich. The owner is also an ISU alum.
Gateway Market is a hidden gem in itself I guess as well.
Chefs Kitchen in Beaverdale
Flying Mango
The Wedgie at Paul Reveres
Cafe Di Scala
louies wine dive
mi mexico
These are my Des Moines faves
Someone's PMS'ing. The OP just moved here so I doubt he knows about a lot of the places mentioned as he listed the Clipper under hidden gem.
He also had a question asking what are your favorite places so get your panties out of a wad.
I keep reading the title to this thread as Best Hidden Cams. Oy.

Daytonas wings and pizza. The place is a **** hole with a crappy racing motif. But the food is greAt, a free keg friday night, and usually fun drinking games during football games.
It is wonderful... Yes it is sketchy looking, but every 5 years or so we got get chili dogs, fantastic.
Is the South Union Cafe still open in downtown DSM? I remember they had kick *** bread. Fill up a sack and take it back to the work crew. I want to say it was on Locust by a flower shop, but it's been quite some time.
Also hiding in plain view is Tasty Mother Effing Tacos!!!!
Man, I haven't gotten out nearly enough since I moved to Des Moines.
Every time someone says Jethros has good food, I kill a puppy.
