What's the best, most memorable sporting event you've seen in person?

I would say try to keep it non-ISU if you can. If the most memorable sporting event is Iowa State related, then it is. I just foresee many "Oklahoma State-Iowa State football" like responses.

For me:

1) November 4th, 2007. Adrian Peterson runs for 296 yards against the Chargers.

This also happened in that game:

2) October 6th, 2009. Tigers @ Twins Game 163.

3) Saw Mark McGwire hit a home run when the Cardinals played at the Twins during his 70-home run season in 1998. I was 13 at the time, and didn't give a thought of steroids being involved. I was thrilled to get to see a part of eventual history.

1982 Final Four, Jordan is a freshman and NC beats Georgetown. Great game and lots of stars in that particular Final Four.

Iowa State vs Iowa 2002. Some guy by the name of Seneca Wallace takes over the game.

ISU over Iowa last year. Chiefs beating the Chargers two years ago for the home opener on MNF.

The last time we played Nebraska was also pretty memorable, but not a fan of the outcome.

When I made the game winning shot to win the 5th grade YMCA basketball league. I'm glad I was there to witness my own greatness.

Saw ISU at MU when Davis went off. Saw ISU come from 20 back to beat CO in a November game on a beautiful day. Both of those were great. Those and a lot of others previously mentioned are good candidates. ISU winning thier first conferance championship and the last Big 8 tournament in 1996 at Kemper Arena is an easy most memorable in person. It was a close game 56-55 and when Calvin Kato drew a charge on one of the KU gaurds in the last couple stretch it was clear ISU was making the breaks it needed to win the game. Not only was it a great game but it really got the monkey of ISUs back and proved they could win. I think that season and that win set the table for the increased level of success we have seen the last fifteen years of cyclone athletics

Here are a couple non-ISU contests--

December 31, 1967: Green Bay 21-Dallas 17, the Ice Bowl, the most famous pro football game ever played. Yes, it was really cold.

1985 Purdue-Indiana men's basketball. Bob Knight throws his chair. Not the most famous college game ever played, but perhaps the most notorious act by a coach.

1987 Indianapolis 500: Al Unser wins his fourth "500." Winning four is hard to do.

2012: Tennessee-Baylor women's basketball: Pat Summit's last game as a head coach. She coached more winning games than anyone in division one, male or female.

I've had a chance to see lots of others, but these are pretty noteworthy. I've had the advantage of age over most of the respondents, since I went to my first major league ball game in 1953, and my first college football game in 1955. I've seen lots of sporting events over the years....

I don't get to much non ISU related, for me it's a tie between Okie St FB and being in Cincy to watch the ISU women knock off UCONN.
