I would love to know the full back story of the bugle logo. It literally showed up for one game an disappeared. They were even selling bugle logo merch at that game but don't recall seeing it ever again. How thought it was a good idea/pushed for it. Who made it go away so quickly. It was the most random ISU logo roll out I can remember.
I remember being so excited driving to Ames and hearing about a new tornado logo on the pre-game radio show and that merchandise was available at the game. I stopped on the way there to get more cash to buy a bunch. I anxiously went up the east side steps and headed towards the merchandise to the north. As I walked up and saw the logo for the first time the excitement drained out of my body. It was like the old cartooons when someone dies and the spirit floats away, while the body just melts. I just turned around and dejectedly walked to my seat. It was such a let down.

I called the show Chris Williams did after the game on my way home and expressed my displeasure. Chris accused me of being old and said it was great and only the old people wouldn't like it.

I talked with the designer who created the bugle logo. He had other concepts. Stronger concepts. The athletic department decided/chose the bugle. Not the designer's fault. Having non-design people choose/direct creative is at fault.

I'd claim I had better ideas and was over ruled as well if that was the reaction something I did got.

If people want a twister logo, I've always liked the Twisted Cy. I'm probably the only one though.

Not me. That's the logo I grew up with the most, I'd say. The first logo I ever really "knew" so to speak. It gets a ton of flack, but I'd take it back in a heart beat over I-State or any iterations of stand alone Cy.

Here I would do version C without the shoes, keep the bigger front facing eye, but bigger black outline around it like B or D.

With D I don't like the even bigger eyes and centered pupil and closed mouth, or the giant **** pointing to his head.
Interesting. I'll work on that. Let me see what I can do.

I'm 100% on the 80s tornado logo, but I would take this logo, or an updated version, 10 times out of 10 over the bugle.
