I was listening to 600AM in CR on the way home yesterday and they were discussing the Penn State situation. They argued that Penn State will be heavily penalized, but not miss a game of football because it would negatively impact the rest of the Big 10 conference financially. It was interesting to get the Hawk/B1G homer opinion on this and it does make financial sense. Right or wrong I don't think the Big 10 is quite so high minded that they will totally expel PSU when they think of the potential money lost.

I agree. The bottom line will prevail while they do something to save face. Any league would do it, it's not just the Big 10.

I don't see it happening, but if it did, it would be interesting to see how Missouri proceeded. I'm positive they would throw feelers out to the Big 10 behind the SEC's back, and probably end up burning their bridges with their new conference.

You mean to tell me that the B1G would put money and athletics ahead of academics regardless of how much their homers try to tell you it's an academic conference. That's why the chose Nebraska is because of their upstanding academics and AAU membership....OH wait a minute.

I can see the Big Ten forcing Penn State to play all of their games away. The money is still there for the conference and Penn State still gets punished.

I was talking about this yesterday with someone. It's easy to say "ban them a year" or whatever, but the legal fall out will take awhile to figure out. Do they pay the Iowa's of the world if they don't play? Is that game a straight up forfeit that counts as a "W" for Iowa? If a Big 10 team is undefeated and one of those wins is vs Penn State (forfeit) and another team is undefeated, who gets the nod to the Nat Championship game (again, that's real money). And that is real money lost for Iowa....ticket sales, concessions, etc. I do think that, big picture, the other big 10s will take a hit and that's ok. Kinda the idea of when things are good you benefit from certain members, you also have to take that hit when those members don't make the money.

It'll be interesting to see how that all pans out. One thing I think Murph/Andy pointed out that is true, the Big 10 Network really missed by not covering the pressers, etc that were happening. This is real Big 10 news, even if negative.

B10 is posturing to make it look like they are considering all the options. If they can throw stuff out there that makes some people actually believe they would consider kicking PSU out it makes the league look better. They aren't actually considering doing it.

I'm not sure why everybody is bagging on the Big Ten. You know the Big XII would do the same thing. Are we really to believe that the Big XII would actually kick out Okie State or K-State?

One of those two would have a better shot of getting kicked out than Penn State. People don't realize that Penn State is the most valuable program in the Big 10. It would be on par of kicking Texas out.

last year I heard a Husker fan talking about how the Big 10 was a better fit for the Huskers because of their high academic standing and the way the Big 10 valued academics.
I didn't bother asking him about their AAU membership, or lack of.

I imagine the Big 10 right now is working behind the scenes on a contingency plan for a workable conference schedule with 11 teams, in the event that PSU does get banned from play for a year.

I agree that any conference would do the same in the end. They would come up with some harsh penalties, but not kick them out. I don't fault the Big 10 that.

I think an interesting punishment would be to take away their iconic uniforms and ban them from wearing them for 5-10 years. Tell them that they've lost the moral right to wear those proud uniforms. In the meantime, make them wear all gray uniforms with no decorations. Or maybe jailbird orange. Anything disgraceful.

I would add making them use the Pedo Bear for their mascot during that time frame as well.
