From texassports.com regarding DK Roayl Stadium:

"In 2009, south end zone seating was upgraded and expanded, increasing the stadium's capacity to 100,119, making it the sixth-largest collegiate stadium in the country and the largest in the southwest."

For the life of me I can't comprehend how an athletic department that has a fanbase buying this many football tickets can't easily sell out Mens Basketball as well.

The capacity of the Frank Irwin Center is 16,755. Only 17 percent of the football fans would have to buy basketball tickets as well!

The one that doesn't really make sense is Baylor struggling with attendance. I don't know what they are averaging this year, but that is a very good team, and exciting to boot.
We've soldout 2 in a row, but we did horrible before students were back from Christmas and during noncon. I don't go to the Lady Bears' games, but I think they do a bit better average wise.

Texas does not need the money so they don't (almost) give away their empty seat tickets with highly discounted prices.
