The Four Corners might still have a bit of an ego about themselves that they came from the "Conference of Champions" (now the Pac-Dead) and are just hanging out in the Big 12 for whenever that invite to the elite academics (minus Nebraska) of the Big Ten or the NFL-lite football of the SEC comes.

It might take them some time to realize they're here for good, should feel lucky they ended up in one of the four remaining power conferences, and they should come to embrace this mentality. The best thing about the Big 12 schools is they realize the Big Ten and SEC will never call them -- if they wanted any of the remaining Big 12 schools, they'd have them already -- so hunker down and proceed accordingly.

Plenty of Big 12 schools tried to rationalize that invite was coming...

Iowa State = We (were) in the AAU! Geographic and cultural fit! Football and basketball programs on the upswing! Way overperforms our resources, imagine us with Big Ten money!

Kansas = (Still) in the AAU! Geographic and cultural fit! Brings the Kansas City market and recruiting! Elite basketball program! Wouldn't it be cool to see the Jayhawks play Indiana and Michigan State? We swear we will make our football respectable (or at least no worse than the rest of the dregs) someday!

Oklahoma State = Oklahoma can't go anywhere without us!

Texas Tech = Texas can't go anywhere without us!

None of these theories proved true. We're stuck with each other. And that great!

A few factual facts about new Big 12 football stadiums:

School ------- Capacity ---Built
1. BYU -------- 63,470 (1964-1982)
2. ISU --------- 61,500 (1975-2015)
3. W Va ------- 60,000 (1980) *built on ISU plans
4. Texas Tech - 56,200 (1947-2023)
5. Ok State --- 55,509 (1920-2009)
6. Az State --- 53,599 (1958-2018 reduced from 74,865)
10. K State --- 52,200 (1968-2021)
7. Utah ------- 51,444 (1998)
8. Arizona ---- 50,782 (1929-2018 reduced from 57,400)
12. Kansas --- 50,250 (1921-1992 stadium)
(proposed 2025 rebuild at 39,839 Not final)
9. Colorado -- 50,183 (1924-2014)
11. UCF ------ 48,000 (2007 design expandable to 65,000)
14. TCU ------ 47,000 (1930-2020)
13. Baylor ---- 45,140 (2014 design expandable to 55,000)
15. Cincinnati- 40,000 (1924-2015)
16. Houston – 40,000 (2014)

So who are the new big dogs?

Whose rebuild planning is stupid? See Kansas on-line articles. They want to include an entertainment district on the football field's support area which will need a smaller stadium footprint.

The KU stadium renovation and entertainment center plan and proposal is ludicrous. Like the plan for the ISU tent row, they have been convinced to build entertainment, hotels, theater, etc., around the stadium area, but have not planned for the required parking. Parking will probably be on campus with a long walk.

The rebuilt stadium will move closer to the field by removal of the track. Because the existing walkways across the seating is so narrow, the stadium would expand outward to create wider walkways. (I remember being about 2/3 of the way up, and felt like falling to the field when looking down.) If they kept the same seating numbers the stadium would expand beyond the current footprint. The designers want to reduce the footprint to leave more room for the entertainment district development.

Because in the 5 down years between 2015 and 2019 KU had an average attendance of 26.610 the consultant wants to reduce the stadium to 39,839 seats. This would make it the smallest stadium in the new Big 12. Apparently new stadiums for several other non-winning football schools have been reduced in size. Whatever they decide it will be soon, as the proposed new stadium would open in 2025. The drawings of the stadium do not indicate the ability to expand in the future.

Considering that KU is the only major university adjacent to the 2M Kansas City metropolitan area, their assumed inability to fill a stadium at 40,000 seats shows that they would rather think about basketball. (Would those footballers just go away.)

Once they figure out how to dribble a football they might even include hoops on either end.

Is it too late to kick out Houston? A less than capacity crowd of 36,000 fans at the Big 12 opener while hosting an in state school is very underwhelming.

Will never get why they were invited when only two (BYU & UC) were necessary to immediately backfill UT and OU. And that could have saved Oregon St and WSU.

Even so the ACC would gobble them up.

I’m assuming it was a defensive move against the PAC and also a Hoops net add

well this Pat Forde tweet certainly didn't age well, after today's complete asswhooping at Autzen. That God Deion is so fond of invoking apparently decided that he and his eye-gouging azzhole of a primadonna son needed some humbling.

"Mission Accomplished".

That said, I wish the *university and its students* a great year.. I just wish it didnt involve Coach Prime (jackass).

Watching the UCF / Purple Kitties game. UCF doesn't look too bad. Their defense play a little better, they might not be too bad.

Spoke too soon. Just as I'm typing this they fumble on a first down run.

Never mind. K-State is just running all over them.

ASU and Utah seem the worst about this but give it a while and see if they come around. If not get rid of them whenever the realignment wheel spins again.

I cant actually remember any conference "getting rid " of ANYONE... it is always the schools themselves choosing to leave. And I'm thinking al the way back in the 70s.. but that far back my memory becomes a bit ... iffy.

I don't believe anyone ever has, there are just *ssholes that kill every conference they've been in (Texas) some of your internet colleagues swore they are 2 good for the B12, your a.d. felt otherwise and took the lifeline that was extended to you. I hope you like the B12 just fine, but after surviving a couple of rounds a realignment I have no sympathy for those that don't want to be saved. You could have just as easily been in the PAC 2 with OSU and WSU, that would have gotten you good money.

The Big East kicked Temple out in 2004 for being terrible at football.

It'll be interesting if the top of the B1G and SEC want to form a super conference, but someone will still have to be a loser. So I don't know if that'll work or not.
