I hate change, but if expansion isn't planned in the near future I think the Big 12 has to do it. It sort of "worked" for the Big Ten, I guess, but not really. They were still sort of a laughing stock for it.

As others have mentioned I'd prefer something non-numerical so we don't have to change again due to expansion or...ahem...contraction. I'd also tend to shy away from anything directional (Plains, Central). I mean, what if Florida wants to join someday? I'm kidding about that, but you get my point.

I only have a couple suggestions that meet these criteria: The Millennium Conference or The 21st Century Conference.

I get what your saying but that really hasn't stopped the PAC 12 or the Big East. Since when is Colorado, Utah or Arizona on the Pacific Coast? And how is TCU in the east?

I'd like to see a corporate sponsor too. CFB is all about money and if someone is willing to pay $40 million a year, you go for it. I have no problem playing in the Dr. Pepper Conference.

I say sell the rights to the name. College football is clearly mostly about money and this could be a cash COW that the bigten wouldn't be willing to go to giving us an advantage they don't have access to. I am no longer too proud for this type of thing if it keeps us in the mix.

I'm all for the name change regardless of the history we have as the Big 12, it is no more with the conference shake-ups. So as far as the new name:

Stay away from numbers, conference shake-ups aren't done and I think it is likely that we gain additional teams within the next few years.

With it all being about money, why not sell the conference naming rights?!? They had better at least be looking into this, if someone is willing to shell out multiple millions each year to be the conference name it would go a long way in helping each college out with athletics funding. (This in fact would be amazing for ISU in helping out the funding for athletics, an easy couple of million most likely).

I am not in favor of selling rights to the name. Wouldn't it look a little ridiculous with Dr. Pepper logos spread everywhere on player's jerseys and fan merchandise?

By everywhere you mean the a Dr. Pepper logo instead of the currently Big XII logo that is all over players jersey's and fan merchandise??

It wouldn't be anything drastically different than any other logo you would change to, it would just be a company instead of some roman numerals.

It would look a lot less ridiculous to me if it helped us pay for a bowled in endzone.

What about "The Conference of the United States"? That way it won't limit us to any geographical part of the country or the amount of teams in the conference.

Nothing against GSD&M, a very successful large Ad Agency, however they are based in the heart of Texas country literally, Austin Texas....I wonder if our logo will be burnt orange?

Thought you all might be interested in this.

From the linked article

"The Big 12 has come to similar conclusions if they are considering a name change. The move would likely be to remove the “12″ in some form. The conference has hired GSD&M Idea City to consider new name ideas. It’s a safe assumption that if a move were made to remove the “12″ that the conference would be less likely to expand in the near future as changing the brand would be a permanent change."

I hope they do change the name if we aren't expanding back to 12. I think the Big 12 name kind of makes the conference look weak since everyone will see it and remember that we lost two teams. I kind of like the name The Central Conference since Mid American and Heartland are already taken, Southwest Conference feels wrong, and Midwest Conference (MWC) is to similar to the Mountain West Conference (MWC). Anyone got any other serious suggestions?

The University of Toronto is a potential monster. Why would we keep them out?:jimlad:

I do rather like the "Dr. Pepper" conference. :). Along those lines, perhaps the "Show me the Money" conference?

Hmm... then we could use this as our logo

If we eventually got conferences, logically we could do 'Cruise' and 'Scientology' or something along those lines...
