Sorry if this obvious solution has already been posted but it should be called the Big 8+4-2 Conference. Any further moves can be easily reflected while still keeping the core brand. They can also capture the under represented mathematician sports fan.

Let's keep in mind that the Big Ten was still the Big Ten when it had eleven teams.

Just the first thing that came to my mind: The Central Ten Conference, since all teams reside in Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas. Call it the CEN-10 for short. Not the best idea, but give me a break, it's the first thing I came up with :p

You know what, screw that. The Big Ten is now going to be the Big Ten with 12 teams. How about we go back to the Big 8? If they can be the Big Ten +2, we can be the Big 8 +2

If they change it they should have Power 10 as the name. Otherwise just leave it with the big 12. Everyone know the name. However, we have made fun of the big 10 for like 15years+ for having 11 members.

Selling the conference naming rights sounds good, until Viagra buys it up.

From the linked article

"The Big 12 has come to similar conclusions if they are considering a name change. The move would likely be to remove the “12″ in some form. The conference has hired GSD&M Idea City to consider new name ideas. It’s a safe assumption that if a move were made to remove the “12″ that the conference would be less likely to expand in the near future as changing the brand would be a permanent change."

I hope they do change the name if we aren't expanding back to 12. I think the Big 12 name kind of makes the conference look weak since everyone will see it and remember that we lost two teams. I kind of like the name The Central Conference since Mid American and Heartland are already taken, Southwest Conference feels wrong, and Midwest Conference (MWC) is to similar to the Mountain West Conference (MWC). Anyone got any other serious suggestions?

An earlier post got me thinking of something historical that would tie the remaining Big 12 states together. How's this:

1. Chisholm Trail League (Conference): There is some historical tie-in to the Big 12. This old pioneer cattle trail (also used earlier by Indians and traders) went from the Red River in Texas, through Oklahoma to Kansas. Present day US 81 roughly follows the same route.

2. Shawnee Trail League (Conference): This gets better, as the Shawnee Trail (also known as Texas Road) was a pioneer cattle trail (also an Indian trail and major trading corridor) that passed through Midwest Indian lands and went from Texas, through Oklahoma and Kansas to Kansas City, Missouri. US 69 now follows this route and US 69 coincidently proceeds north from Kansas City to pass through Ames within two miles of Jack Trice Stadium.

Each of these two names tie together a big part of midwest history, including early settlers, Indians, the cattle industry, cattle drives, Rawhide, major US highway routes still in use today, Big 12 states, the Red River Shootout, the Kansas-Missouri rivalry during the Civil War, etc.
