Guessing WVU and Baylor would stay for the affiliation through 2025 regardless of the inconvenience.

Then after that and the conferences merge, they would likely be dropped. Hopefully WVU gets into ACC. Baylor.. what-evs...
I know that alot of people don't like Baylor due to their record of bad behavior with athletes but IMO, I think we need to keep Texas teams to aid in recruiting of Texas athletes.

In all honesty, when this all went down, I thought that only a Big 10 invite would get me out of my depression. But as the possibility of the 8 remaining members staying together has seemed more likely, its grown on me. Retaining some of our identity by keeping games against OSU, KU, and KSU, while re-igniting with CU would be great. And if you're looking for fun away games to travel too, the Pac-12 is clearly superior to the Big 10 (ignoring cost of travel).

One other benefit of sticking together is that it sticks it to UT and OU. I think we all know that they assumed that the conference would fall apart when they announced as the rest of us scrambled, and then they would get out of having to either stay until 2025 or pay to exit. But if the remaining 8 stick together and either do a scheduling deal or a merger, it can be done orderly and planned to begin in 2025.
Some sort of alliance would help in the interim, particularly if OU and Texas are out the door after this season. Both conferences would benefit - PAC can schedule games the entire day, Remaining 8 get some high-profile matchups as well as a way to fill schedules.

However, this alliance probably doesn't do much for long-term stability.

Maybe Bowlsby is working with the Pac 12 to enter into an inter-conference scheduling agreement for the next 4 years without addressing in any legal documents that both will merge at anytime OU/TU exit the Big 12 during the next 4 years so the remaining 8 can stick it up the rear of OU/TU on the full penalties as well as the loss of any remaining Big 12 TV revenue for the years they do not stay. Everything seems to be about positioning so that they do not escape without paying thru the nose for violating the terms of the Big 12 Conference membership agreement. I hope he/we get it done and I think there is a good chance he/we will. I doubt that OU/TU, the SEC or ESPN want this to be strung out for 4 years.

I think this can stabilize ISU for the long haul.

I think if they formally merged you'd have more stability. The new conference would be formally set as one the 4 in the new super conference world, and if things trend to a 64 team CFB away from the NCAA, well then you've got 30% of the inventory for that product. So you try to offset some of the quality perception with a quantity of games.

We kicking West Virginia out then? Or are they going to try and travel nearly coast to coast for every sporting event all year long
Yeah, I can't see WVU working with the PAC at all. And I don't think the PAC would be too thrilled adding Baylor either. Negotiate WVU to the ACC and dump Baylor to the AAC then you get an 18 team conf with the remaining Big 12 and PAC. Could work.

It wasn’t long ago that “No way the PAC 12 takes the religious schools Baylor and TCU (or BYU).”
So now we’re down to the Big 5 over here. Unless something has changed in the past week.

I fly 1200 miles 3 or 4 times to Des Moines to watch the Cyclones. I have seats in the Sukup. The only other time I've flown for an ISU game was to Austin to see that first win over Texas.

I have a brother in Seattle, a college friend in Oregon, cousins in Denver, a college friend in Phoenix, my wife's uncle in Tucson and several cousins in the LA area. Don't know anyone in Utah.

Traveling to away games has never been in my budget. However, with the possibility of an alliance with the PAC 12, I see at least two or maybe three more airline round trips to the Mountain or Pacific time zones.

I'm in. I'll worry about paying for this later.

AM I the only one who thinks these type discussions could use a bit more professionalism/confidentiality, particularly as it relates to the ever watchful eyes of the media?

The REAL stuff is behind closed doors.

I would guess this news is a signal -
to the Big12 fanbases that not all hope is lost, so let's stick together
to ESPN, we are gonna have a carrot (better games) as well as a stick (lawsuits)
to the B1G, that we're all talking and you are welcome to join too
