Wasn't twocoach saying that one of the things that put Wiggins over the top of Ejim was the fact that he was one of the best defensive players in the conference? Funny, not seeing Wiggins listed on all defensive team. Clearly that must be an oversight by the coaches.

Twocoach is pretty stupid at times, but Wiggins really is one of the best defensive players in the conference, and it really was an oversight by the coaches. I'd argue - and it's a pretty easy argument, actually - that he had a bigger defensive impact* in Big 12 play than the DPOY.

(*KU allows 0.10 fewer points per possession when Wiggins is on the court versus when he's on the bench. For Embiid, that number is only 0.02. And Wiggins played significantly more minutes.)

I didn't have a problem with any of the other award selections - Ejim was very deserving of POY - but Wiggins not being on the All-Defensive team was a clear miss.

Just noticed this ESPN Sportsnation poll next to the Big 12 POTY article:

"What do you make of Iowa State's Melvin Ejim winning Big 12 Player of the Year over Andrew Wiggins, Marcus Smart et al?"

Currently at 62% "Good call" vs 38% "Bad call" with over 10k votes.

Kansas (barely) and WV are the only Big 12 states that voted "bad call". Even Oklahoma went over 2-1 in favor of Ejim.

Ejim AP POY as well. Those KU fans are going to have to rely on another conspiracy theory now...
KU fans have conspiracy theories? Are you new to this site? Can you imagine what this site would look like if Wiggins would have won over Ejim?!?

I can't imagine that because Ejim was the obvious choice.

You mean to tell be that Cyclone fans would back a Cyclone basketball player? I learn something new everyday.

Agreed. Wiggins off the All Defense team was ridiculous. He routinely held the best player below his average and was moved to guard any opponent that was hot to cool them off. He just didn't rack up the blocks/steals stats that lazy voters use. Coaches probably watch less basketball games by the other teams in the conferences than fans do. They have video coordinators breaking down games so they don't just sit and watch games that their teams aren't playing in. Every person on here has probably watched more Big 12 games end to end than the average Big 12 coach. I am reminded that Kobe Bryant has been on 1st Team All NBA teams forever enven though he hasn't played a lick of defense in close to a decade. Much of it is just laziness by voters in just looking at stats and reputation.

Oh, it wouldn't have been "Ejim should have won". It would have been "the Big 12 had the fix in to support Kansas" etc... The conspiracies I have come across here are legendary.

I suspect if you spent as much time on KU boards as you do here, you would see there is little difference in reactions. KU's fanbase can be just as adamant about conspiracies...

Exactly. Yesterday they worked themselves into a frenzy on Phog.net over the coach's awards before finally deciding it was just because all the other coach's hate Kansas because they are so good and so they voted Ejim over Wiggins. They were sure this would be rectified by the AP awards today. Not so fast my friend!!

One of the many reasons I don't post there. I don't care for irrational fans, no matter who they cheer for. Phog.net seems to have an abundance of them over there. Most of the reasonable KU posters are looking for a new home now that the CBSSports boards are gone and KUSports has tied themselves to Facebook for user names.

I didn't say ISU fans were the ONLY fan base that would have that same reaction. I am right about what it would have been like here. It would go in the complaint vault and for the next 10+ years there would be gifs, videos, signs, etc... railing about it. If for no other reason than to eliminate that from happening I am glad Ejim won. In all seriousness, he was awesome this year and a worthy winner.

There is a simpler way for you to avoid all of that type of unpleasantness...
