They don't hunt bears either...do you think it is because the bears have been shooting at them? .

are you serious? Do you think it might have something to do with the fact
trying to hunt a grown bear would be somewhat dangerous to a mountain
lion/puma/cougar?

oh..and...

This is hilarious. I remember my uncle (DNR guy) talking about this one. His favorite is still the rumor that the DNR has used unmarked helicopters to release mountain lions in the state.

end quote....~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

One of my buddies (sioux rapids area) had land adjoining
this individuals property. The DNR -did- show up at his neighbors farm
(with a warrant). Funny thing is they didn't bother to look around, but
instead simply walked straight to the out building he was stretching the
hide in. The only explanation he could figure was that it had been implanted
with tracking device.

I'll grant some of you doubters the fact most folks will NEVER see a live
big cat. You are right about them being extremely wary. Also, the idea
that the DNR would introduce them is pretty unlikely. Maybe not impossible,
but really, what sense would it make for a government agency to do
something that nature is accomplishing all by itself?

err...on second thought, we are talking about a gov agency, guess we can
through logic out.... :jimlad:

peace.

That's why they are the Washington State Pumas:wink:

Cougar and mountain lion are both used in the pacific NW. Pumas is more associated with the south.

How did you see it, I would think it would blend in.

This is what I associate with PUMAS . . . .

Mountain lion sightings in the "Missouri River Basin" have become common in NW Iowa. The hunting season was even expanded this year in neighboring South Dakota. The explosion of the deer population makes for easy pickins' along the Sioux rivers for the lions.

As a matter fact.... we've even had an occasional horny, bull moose wander in from Minnesota through the years.

How do you know he was horny? You're one sick dude!

I have personally seen what I believed to be a mountain lion in Carrol. Have heard a few stories from farmers up in NW Iowa and NE Nebraska. So, I believe they are in the area just not in a abundance.

So, the guy had already skinned it and was streaching it and he didn't know it had a tracking device? Don't you think it is more likely that someone saw him and reported it.
