Hey! Don’t bash George Conditt on this board!!

He’s been here 4 years and been through alot, ok!

Nah **** that. You’ll get dumbed down all day for talking bad about George but truth is he’s terrible and not close to a Big 12 caliber player. He would not start on any other big 12 team.
I don't think we really need to bash any of our players.

My personal, no insider info guess is that we lose Enaruna, Jackson, Conditt, and Gabe. That would give us 3 spots to work with. CW not long ago was thinking we'd get Brockington back, so hopefully that stays that way. Get a SG and a big for the starters next year and then another big for the bench and we're looking pretty good IMO.

I like George, but he isn't a player who is a good match-up against quick, athletic posts. He also doesn't have the greatest hands or a skilled post who can put the ball on the floor or hit a 10-15 foot jump shot consistently.

TJ has done a good job of creating a roster with 1 off-season, but too many guys are too inconsistent to start. George isn't alone- I would put Kunc, Caleb and Gabe in that category as well. Gabe could start on a team if he was the 5th option on offense.

If George comes back next year, I would be curious to see pairing Tre King with Conditt. Put Tre in the high post to facilitate the offense and have George post up low. IMO George would be much more effective camping out around the basket.

Agree there will be quite a bit of roster turnover. I can see the Clones bringing in 4 transfers this spring. IMO the grad transfer rule is intended for a player like George Conditt. Get your under-grad degree and then get a new life experience/start a Masters Degree at a new school.

From another site, this quote from the 6'8" Maryland transfer that we are pursuing:

"They need scoring, they need a lot of guys next year, that's kind of what they have been telling me," he said of his conversations with Iowa State.

Again not our biggest problem tonight. I'm not saying he was good tonight. I'm just saying you all seem to think he's the reason we lose. EVERY one of the players were bad tonight. All of them.

None of my posts had anything to do with last night. This thread really has nothing to do with last night. It's about options for big men next year. George and Bob are big men. They make up the worst front court in the Big 12, maybe in high major div 1. They may be great guys. I don't know them. We need better post players next year in a bad way.

Everybody was bad last night. But again, that has nothing to do with this thread.

Agreed. I'm generally not convinced any single player ever makes a massive difference positive or negative (as long as they try) on defense unless you're like a Manute Bol level rim protector. Can't argue with the plan for this season but think the staff will need to be more aggressive pursuing bucket makers who maybe aren't elite on defense moving into next year.

I think once you do have the foundation set on defense you can hide some weaker defenders at least a bit. Not too many guys like Brockington available who can bring it on both ends like that.
You should watch Lexi Donarski on the women's team. She is assigned the other team's best back court player every game and she has kept a lot of all conference players way below their season averages. She has been instrumental in Bill's tactic of "making someone else beat you". Her impact on games has been tremendous and she is a pretty damned good scorer as well - not to mention back up point guard duties.

Can't argue with that. I suppose I should have phrased it a bit differently that individual defensive skill for the most part can't carry that side of the floor like individual offensive skill on the other end. A lot of perimeter defensive impact can be subject to your opponent, individual matchups, and then just creative coaching by one side or the other. I also think you can "hide" a less than elite defender (provided they put in effort), especially at guard or on the wing, in a way that it's more difficult to do on offense. (There are outliers though, like Tony Allen a while back on the Grizzlies.)

I suppose more simply, I think defense is more the whole than the sum of the parts, obviously great perimeter defense is a major help, but I think it still comes down more to overall team play on that end. With the foundation on that end set this season, presumably with a good number of those pieces returning, you can afford to maybe take a chance or two on guys who haven't been elite on that end if necessary to get more talent on offense heading into next year.

Fizer was listed at 6-6 265. What he didn't have in height he made up for in ballast so he could defend centers when he had to. He was NOT getting pushed around on the block on offense or defense. But not every guy who is 265 can run the floor like Marcus could.
Height is over rated regarding good rebounders. The top rebounders in the best conference in the nation are both 6'4". I not sure Brockington is even that tall.

Because a player has been here 4 years, posting can't be made about a player's ability/production? OMG. Conditt has proven over and over again he is a tall, weak rebounder and scorer. Not debatable. This is not about Conditt as a person. There is no reason to believe he is not a good person, IMO.

George is a total class act.

What don't people understand?

You can be a class act or a cyclone at heart or a great person. I never said that he wasn't.

He's not a big 12 basketball player.

That's not hard to understand. I can still like the guy and wish him well and hope he has a great career doing whatever.

I always thought George would come back for his second senior year. After watching him sit after the game the other night I highly doubt it. We are going to need to snag one or two big men in the portal. King will help with Some size but we are going to need some scoring also.

8 boards in 20 minutes, no i don't have a name but that's the guy I want. King and Kunc can hopefully be high production guys, they just need a beast to join the rotation with them.

Keep Enaruna and Jones as outside the normal rotation guys and our depth looks ok as well.
