Self is a class act and was very respectful of Fred and ISU, interesting he referenced back to how tuff ISU plays them at Allen Fieldhouse

Self has always said good things about ISU, but KU's respect even goes back to Roy Williams; he always had good things to say - particularly about Floyd.

As an Illinois fan, I want to hate Bill Self but I just can't. I really wish he coached in a different conference so I could root for him more often.

Agree with you 100% about Roy, and it's great that Self has continued that. Self has 22 years in the Big 12 as a player, assistant, and head coach, so I think he's sincere when he shows his respect for us. And I'm glad we respect him, too. I think he'll go down as the best and/or winningest coach in history when his career ends.

Pretty impressive he just rattles off names like Vanderbeeken in the press conference.

Yep, respect Self more than any other coach not named Fred Hoiberg.

Think that's impressive? Check this out:

PHIL ANDERSON/THE CAPITAL-JOURNAL-Kansas basketball coach Bill Self, left, visits with former Iowa State basketball player Elmer Robinson after Self addressed an audience of 450 people at the Summit, a meeting sponsored by the Sales and Marketing Executives of Topeka at Maner Conference Centre at the Kansas Expocentre. Robinson asked Self to autograph a basketball. Self said he remembered Robinson from his playing days in the 1980s at Iowa State. "You were number 25, right?" Self said to Robinson, who confirmed that was his uniform number. Robinson, who now lives in Topeka, finished his Iowa State career in 1989

In the post-game interview on the court right after the game, he even admitted that they got lucky.

I am not a fan of Kansas basketball, and the coach goes along with that like a package deal. I feel the same way about certain football programs in the Big 12, which don't include Kansas. Therefore, I think names of changes in personality for Bill might be "Bill Generous" or "Bill Liberal". I would feel out of place with his name.

I really, really like Self, which is weird since I do not like Kansas. He is a great, great coach though. He is a humble, realistic guy which I really love. Kansas should feel very fortunate to have the guy. I think he will go down as one of the greatest coaches of all time.
