They are only building one wing of that building now. The second wing will be built at a furture date, same goes for the parking deck.

I think that they chose to build that wing first because the money was there. The bioeconomy is a hot button topic and there was state money available for that building. The Ag/Bio E part had to depend more on alumni and coporate donations. But from what I've heard, that building is moving forward again.

The reason I only mentioned two wings is because the plans call for the other two wings and the garage to be built at the same time. However, the garage will be built by the Parking division, so it may be a few years for that to happen.

The Parking division is sitting a little better, but the DPS as a whole is not in great shape financially. The university has this stupid system set up that makes the DPS pay for all parking lot maintenance, as a result, much of the money from parking fees goes to maintenance and occasionally construction.

Additionally, not many know this, but the DPS completely funds the orange route(?, the route to Iowa State Center and VetMed).

I believe so. Something was jumping from $7.50 to $10, but I want to say it was in the MU ramp, and not on-street.

It likely won't result in that much of an overall increase because people start watching where they park more closely with higher tickets. They raise ticket prices almost yearly.

That was the entire reason they did that particular increase; to increase compliance. My comment was simply for effect.

Just for the record, I never worked for Parking, but I did work for the DPS for several years and I worked in a capacity that I'm well accounted with the interior workings of the department and the university.

I can attest that even the cops hate the parking division and I know I got ticketed at least three times near the Armory, while working for the DPS.

Among the student body, easily, and with good reason. Their scumbag field employees don't help their public image, either. I know they get decent training, but I see very few who adhere to it out when there are no supervisors to watch them. Additionally, their vehicle-use policies are completely atrocious. On a campus that is increasingly aware of 'green' issues, seeing pickup trucks sitting with the engines on and heaters running full blast for 20 minutes at a time while the driver idly wanders around a parking lot shows an astonishing level of irresponsibility. There is no reason that Parking needs pickup trucks in the first place; they barely even have an argument for everyone needing motor transportation. They should be using Smart cars or golf carts or something, in conjunction with fuel-efficient coupes, or rechargeable cars like the City of Ames purchased. They certainly don't need to leave them running while they go out and issue tickets. That is ridiculous.
