They have a grumpy look about them, like they aren't to pleased with your attention.
Cool pic though.

Was REALLY windy that day, you can see mom's "ears" bending in the wind. I was lucky to see the owlet awake and attentive. Was right next to rich folks suburb development road so they were used to people. Owlets, when awake, are very curious about the world and will keep an eye on you. The parents, not so much as you can see mom in my photo with her eyes closed.

Heard adult Barred Owls hooting earlier (got deck door open) and now I am hearing juveniles doing their whiny "feed me" cry. Went out in dark to see if I could spy them but only managed to let a couple of mosquitoes into the house!

Took another bad phone camera shot through the screen. Trying to identify this bird. I thought, because of it's movement and behavior, that it might be a red-breasted nuthatch, but the head looks to be completely black. Any ideas?

I thought that might be, young one, or even a young robin. We've got lots of both.
It's just the way it moved flitting around, like a wren or warbler.
Young robins around here anyway don't have as much orange as this appears to show. Plus, I rarely see them alone :)
