Report from my Mom at her Wal-Mart:

Usual crazy stuff. The night before an inventory of the quantity of each TV was taken so they could hand out a coupon for those in line (only up to the quantity in stock) to pay at register and then have the TV delivered to their car. Big issue of the morning was on a 42" TV. Someone accidently typed in 13 as their quantity in stock rather than 3. Therefore, 13 people got a coupon and paid for the TV and only 3 were actually able to get said TV. You know what hit the fan.

Had that same story down here in Tucson where they had 60 laptops for sale. So, they placed 60 people aside in a special area for 6 hours waiting for these laptops that were being sold for less than $200. Well, at 5:00 am, an employee accidently opened the palet and it was first come, first serve and none of those 60 people got the laptop. 6 hours wasted waiting in line and needless to say, 60 very angry people!

I went the easy route and just scanned blackfriday2010.com. They research the best deals out there for everything from tvs down to jello instant pudding. I ended up with a sweet GPS system and didn't have to fight any crowds.

Having said that, I actually did a Black Friday at WalMart down in Arkansas a few years ago (talked into it by the girl I was dating). As others mentioned, all the big ticket items were shrink wrapped on palettes in the center aisles. I decided to sit back about a hundred feet and watch what happened. They did a countdown and when they hit zero shrink wrap started flying through the air and it seriously looked like a piranha attack.

The news indicated there were 37,000 at Jordan Creek last night. That just blows my mind.

My father-in-law was at the Wal-Mart in Ames to get one of the $198 tv's. Some lady grabbed one off the pallet before 5 and took off down one of the isles. Sounds like the employees had to hunt her down inside the store.

Just out of curiosity, what are you going to do with 2TB of hard drive space? Not trying to be a smart***. I really am curious? Most people would never fill a 240GB hard drive.

I have 200 gigs of music, as a musician, that is mostly work music, but also a lot of film stuff.

My wife has about 200 gigs of pictures too.

We have about 60 gigs of hd vid that we have shot, and I haven't been shooting a lot.

all right, I grant that 2tb is a lot, but I have about 200 discs of AVIs that wouldnt fit on this- but it would be a sweet way to have a media server on the cheap, so I have been thinking about doing that.

That question is funny to me. I got the same response from a lot of people when I bought a 10gig Hard drive to use for image storage, about 15 years ago. Even the place I bought it from thought I was crazy and would never need that much.

It only takes a few years for what seems like an infinite amount of storage to easily be filled up.

And honestly, if you do a lot of video work, especially HD, even for home movies, the space gets chewed up really quick. Especially when you have a bunch of raw footage and final projects.

I'm not one to download a lot of music/movies so I don't eat up that much space, but the HD video thing I didn't even think of. I just ordered an HD camcorder this morning off of Amazon. I have a 750GB external at home that you are saying will probably fill up pretty quickly since we are having a baby in Jan, huh?

2 hours equals 16 gigs in hd.

you will fill your sd cards and dump them, then shoot more. before you know it, your 500 gigs is 60 left and you then start looking for more space.

Black Friday is the ladies "Superbowl" of shopping. Our wives probably think we're nuts when we want to show up for a football game 7 hours early. Or drive 12 hours one way to watch a 3 hour football game.

I guess I just don't get into the whole getting in line and fighting a ton of other people for deals. I went to Jos A. Bank around noon since their doorbuster deals go until 1:00 PM and got exactly what I wanted. Then I ordered It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia seasons 1-4 for 9.99 each from Best Buy and selected in store pickup. I'll pick it up sometime this weekend when the store's not as busy as today.

My father-in-law made a stop at Best Buy this morning in Ames to pick up a PC. He was in line with his ticket and there was an older lady in front of him who started talking to him. They were conversing about what he was there for and mentioned that he was looking to pick up a PC. The lady asked him if he could see his ticket to see what he was looking to get. Being the trusting man that he is, he handed it to her and her response was "Well, now this is mine." She actually tried to take the ticket from him and said "well, all of the people here saw you give it to me." He had to reach accross a couple of people and snag the thing back out of her hand when she then tried to play it off like she was joking with him. She left the line a few minutes later without any tickets. I hate to say it, but I think that he almost got scammed by a little old lady. :policeman:
