I remember talking to a city official about the 2010 flood. He said things got pretty hairy for them because there is only one line into Ames for power and one of the main poles supporting the line lost a lot of sand and dirt from the base of the pole. So if true, it wouldn't be hard for all of Ames to lose power like this.

He may be right, but it's very hard for me to believe that there is only one line into Ames.

The power flickered and then went out here as someone else mentioned. Was only out for 5-10 minutes before coming back on.

Still nothing in NW Ames for me. God it had to suck to live back in the days of no electricity.

The outage affected the entire city, including the power plant, for about 10 minutes, city officials said. Crews are still working to restore power to areas still without it.
It is anticipated electricity will be restored to all Ames Electric Services customers by 4 p.m. Thursday.

okay... I admit it. I added the "Thursday".

I feel the pain of anyone without power. We had a big storm roll through last night. knocked out the power at 4AM. We still dont have power at the house, poor wife and kids. Xcel says they are trying to have all poweer restored by 11 PM, Wednesday!
Spending the night at the inlaws tonight.

Based on the thread title and my twisted mind I thought this was going to be about drinking.

Sounds like most of the university won't have power until later this evening, sucks for all those living on campus.

Drink the beer before it get's warm!

No power on campus for 2 to 3 more hours according to ISU daily tweet. Time to go home.
