I guess what I don't understand is why this is "odd."

Iowa State basically play at Iowa in even years and some random G5 team in odd years. over 25 years they will wind up playing @ Ohio and @ UNLV 3x each. that's almost as often as The Hawkeyes play @ Illinois these days

Don't you think it's kind of embarrassing for a P5 team agreeing to play AT Arkansas State?

It's odd because a P5 school can and does make more money from home games. ISU should be able to dictate those terms.

Exactly

Iowa State seems to play road games at G5 teams all the time, so while it's odd for a B12 program, it isn't odd for this B12 program.

Campbell and many of the staff came to us from coaching at Toledo, but most of them actually have roots even closer to Akron in northeast Ohio.

P.S. We are talking about putting on a big tailgate in Akron. Send me a PM if you are interested in joining us.

I mean last year TCU played at smU. OK st played at CMU. Texas played at Wyoming a few years ago.

I think this is the full list of P5 vs Non P5 non-conference games for this season:

Oregon State at Colorado State
Boston College at Northern Illinois
Kentucky at Southern Mississippi
Georgia Teach vs UCF
Oklahoma State at South Alabama
Miami at Arkansas State
Mississippi State at Louisiana Tech
Illinois at South Florida
Arizona at UTEP
UCLA vs Memphis
Kansas vs Ohio
Virginia Tech vs East Carolina
North Carolina vs Old Dominion
Oregon vs Wyoming
Stanford vs San Diego State
Virginia vs Boise State
Wake Forest vs Appalachian State
Duke at Army
Texas Tech at Houston
Missouri at UCONN
Vanderbilt at Middle Tennessee
LSU at BYU
Utah at BYU
Wisconsin at BYU

Not sure BYU belongs on the same list as Akron. Ditto Boise State and others. While not P5, these will be games with national interest. I can see us occasionally doing it, but inexcusable to do it as often as we do.

If the U is going to Arkansas State, it can't be that embarrassing for us to do it.

He isn't wrong. The back no e to every athletic department is maximizing income through football. I can't begin to believe playing at Akron will net us more than a home game vs any other team. Perhaps I am wrong, but most P5 teams don't make a habit of this.
