I've listened to Shearer as himself on NPR. Not funny. In fact, rather annoying. My first thought is that they're probably glad to be rid of him.

I love him in This is Spinal Tap, A Mighty Wind and those movies.

Did you have an onion tied to your belt?

Which was the style at the time. Now, to take CyRide cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Gimme five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now where were we... oh yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. I didn't have any white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

That show is going to take a huge hit without Flanders or Burns....Burns especially.

I bet they just introduce a new character named Mr. Snrub who comes from, uh... someplace far away.

(Yes, that will do...)

I agree with those who say they should hang it up. It's lost it's luster quite some time ago.

My family can't go through a holiday or any kind of event without quoting it in some way.

I was just speaking to a co-worker last week, and I made a Simpsons reference. (I referred to someone as a Jerk***) She looked at me like I'd grown a 3rd head. I told her it was from the Simpsons, and she said, "Oh, we don't watch that show in our house. That boy, Bart, is too disrespectful to his elders."

I thought I'd accidentally gone back in time. Certainly, back in the early nineties, The Simpsons might have been edgy, but in the time since, the rest of television has definitely caught up with them. Bart is pretty tame by today's standards. This is a woman that can tell me the plot of every ****ty CBS sitcom from the last 20 years, but the Simpsons is still out of bounds?

My parents didn't let me watch the Simpsons for the same reason (early 90's). But my sisters could watch Friends and other shows with a lot more explicit themes and dialogues. :twitcy:
