I mean, can it even happen? Thought they put in a rule that a team with 2 more wins can’t be jumped.
Some conferences do, some don't (I think). Nonetheless I imagine the Big 12 would probably step in and stop that from happening.

I think there used to be a rule like that in the BCS days. IIRC, it was called the KState rule because they lost the Big 12 conference championship game and fell to a crappy bowl. But they got rid of it later. Big 12 has no rules on selection.

Can someone explain Memphis' situation and other bowl options? If they have other options, I can't understand why that school or its conference would want to celebrate a great season by playing a bowl game in their home stadium.

Because they can keep that sweet, sweet sponsor travel money. They can also scout out their Bass Pro Shop ahead of time for their shopping trip, if the players get what Georgia and TCU got last year.

Washington and Alabama really benefitted from not having a 13th data point. Why didn’t Okie St? Teams in P5 conference championships should be guaranteed a NY6 bowl for protection for those teams that lose (TCU). Otherwise, get rid of the conference championships.

If there is no conference championship game this year OU is in CFP and TCU in NY6. Way to go Bowlsby.

I know going to a bowl game is absolutely fantastic, and we've had a great season; but I can't help but feel a little underwhelmed and disappointed in the game and match up. Our last bowl game was the Liberty Bowl, so was hoping for something different. And, even worse to me, once again not playing a P5 team and once again having to play a really good team in a true road game in their home stadium as a "reward" for a great season. Probably the most Iowa State thing that could ever happen.

I guess let's go win another big road game and end this season right!! GO CYCLONES!! #TrustTheProcess
