The data used by the selection committee is always talked about a lot leading up to Selection Sunday. Especially with teams moving up the AP and Coach's polls that play in weaker conferences.

I thought this was a great article that outlines what the selection committee actually sees when they start meeting.

I didn't realize this but the NCAA is also posting the Team Sheets (maybe they do this every year?). this is the actual document the selection committee will look at.

Thanks for posting the link to the team sheets. I had never found that before either.

Couple things that will make our team sheet look better, if South Carolina can stay in the RPI top 100 and if we can win against Baylor & Oklahoma to break up the four losses in our 2-5th toughest RPI games.

Great stuff, people may hate the RPI but it's the only thing that matters

While the RPI is very important, if you know the process it is not the only thing that matters. In the end it is up to each committee member how they want to weigh any and all information at their disposal.

Very cool, hadn't seen this before. Thanks for sharing.

We need Utah and Gonzaga to lose to have a shot at a #2 seed.

They've been posting the team sheets for a while now. All part of a big push they had a few years back to be more transparent. If you want you can also read through the rules governing the selection process.

Even Charmin is jealous of how soft UNI SOS is.

Edit: However, they got nothing on Notre Dame's Non-Con SOS. WOW!

I think if Iowa State wins out and Kansas loses to OU, and ISU in the Big 12 tourney, ISU will be a 2 seed.

This could end up making a difference at the end of the day; gotta keep rooting for the Gamecocks.

I'm glad he reiterated that "last 12 games" has been dropped. People still have misconception about that.

Also, good information that straight RPI ratings don't determine the pecking order. Many of us know that, but commonly misunderstood.

Palm said AP/coaches polls and non-RPI aren't considered. I thought I had read how those are among the information committee can access (even if RPI is the overriding metric).

Language observation: "Data" as a plural is officially dead. (Or maybe data as a plural are officially dead.)

Not sure why a conference with as many 100+ and 200+ RPI schools as the Missouri Valley has could justify two teams selected to the tournament outside of the #1 team getting upset by a team that wouldnt have made it otherwise. That is a one bid conference all day long, unless the bubble is really weak.

It says in the rules under resources various computer rankings are provided. Perhaps when they are all discussing it at the table they limit it to RPI, but there is nothing stopping a committee member from considering whatever data they want when it comes to submitting their ballots.

Exactly. They may be provided those team sheets as a summary, but that doesn't mean a committee member has to limit themselves to using only the data on that sheet when determining their ballots. They can use whatever criteria they want.

People keep saying we've got a legit shot at a 2-see and it's going to be much harder to get than most expect. Right or wrong there is a lot of distance between the 2 seeds and the 3 seeds this year. While it's technically possible we get a 2-seed, we'd pretty much need to win out, win the conference tourney, and have a couple teams lose 2+ games.

I personally don't want a #2 seed. If we get one, we'll likely be the last #2 seed. Thus, we'll be paired in Kentucky's bracket as the overall #1. A 3 seed is a better chance of steering clear of Kentucky.

Ideally, I want to be a #3 in Utah's, Villanova's, or Gonzaga's bracket.

If we win out and win the conference tourney we will get a two seed. If we don't then there is something wrong when the unanimous champion of the best conference can only get a 3.

Now there isn't really any wiggle room at all to finish worse than that and still get the two seed either.
