I bet hoiberg would have handled it better right?

Since he never won a game against a top 10 team on the road by that much (or maybe at all), obviously not.

Honestly, I WAS just curious. What made this the right time to make the change? You'll note that Williams also didn't think Eli King would play today, so I'm guessing he was surprised too. Wouldn't it be interesting to know why this was the time to make that call? Was it all feel for the game and the emotion of dismissing Caleb? Or was it something about Baylor? Or was it just a might as well try something different after a rough couple of weeks? Was it to give the players that hadn't been playing much and maybe were a little irritated by it, a chance to prove something? There was a reason why those guys hadn't seen the court in weeks and today they saw the court. For someone that likes to understand more about the sport, it would be interesting to know why.

I think it was just a way to get everyone on a struggling team that went through a weird situation this week amped up. Really lean into the connectedness TJ talks about. I hope he keeps giving Ward and Watson some run because I like what they bring.

There has been nothing indicating that those players are irritated by their lack of time.

It looked nothing like anything anyone earned or anything: it looked like a 'let's get a little nuts' moment in a game with a team that needed it, nothing more.

The issue is you say 'I'm just curious' but then follow with unwarranted projections like there's more to it.

Not exactly sure.
I think the Baylor game kinda adheres to the thought of when coaches say they play a lot of people because they have like 10 starters but can’t start them all. Usually that means you truly don’t have any starters. Honestly, I think that is kinda us. We don’t have those players that you say, they are studs and will start for nearly any team.

So when you don’t have the 5 key players, and you want to play hard defense, it probably is best to play basically everyone and have well rested players. TJ did a nice job of putting in Eli, even Hawley, at places like 8:40 left knowing that probably in 2-3 possessions there will be a dead ball and you can resub. That gives a little extra breather to that main player they went in for.

It also gets players to realize that if they are hot on O and/or playing good D that they will get minutes. So they bust their butts to earn a few extra minutes.

It was interesting listening to TJ after the game. He was asked about playing more guys today and why he did it. He basically said why wouldn't you play them since they've been practicing well and all of that. Obviously that's pretty much all he can say, but I'd like to know what the difference was today. They've been practicing all year and not playing all year. It seems odd that all 3 of them had practiced like crap for most of the year and then this week started practicing better.
They won because my wife took the team 5 dozen home made cinnamon rolls on Friday (really). I asked her to make them again this week.

Maybe, but if so, from a behind the scenes perspective.

I got the feeling we played better because of addition by addition. TJ showed some confidence by playing everyone.

Thought the play of Watson and King was a big positive. Even minutes for Eli, Ward and Hawley took edge off a week where there was probably a lot of outside noise for players.
Wish that I had added some comments such as these. I got a few well deserved jabs for my simplistic post.
This was only one game and as we go into the tournaments, I wish we still had Caleb. Hope he find peace, support and success. Some times you just need to mix some things up a little bit. In this case, it was mix things up a lot. Cudos to TJ and the WHOLE team in the response.

It was nice to see some of the reserves play more. The team showed a spark and energy that had been lacking.

Even if your not a 32' starter, I would think it juices up the team, as a whole, knowing your reserves are all (mostly) going to play, anywhere from 1-12', including Hawley. We know Tre is deserving of some starts (or the start), but it was nice seeing significant minutes from Hason and Eli (and, of course, Watson).

He clearly let Fran know that it was coming at least the day before, and the way Fran laid it out in Dean Smith terms I think the conclusions you can draw are tossed right in your lap.

I know it won't happen, but I have this fantasy that Grill comes back with the Charlie Sheen haircut from Major League and leads the team over Texas in the Sweet 16.

And in the most Iowa State moment ever, he mocks Texas with the timeout signal and gets called for a technical because Iowa State doesn't have any timeouts left.

Found out today from a very reliable source what Grill said. This was the same source years ago that shared with me Jameel McKay was suspended for a game and not traveling with the team.
Grill's comment had nothing to do with slurs/race, but it was detrimental to the team and he had done it more than once.

Am I the only one who hates posts like this. Posts that don't come right out and say what they heard, but more or less say, "Neener, neener, neener, I know something you don't know." That's the only reason I can see for this post.

I normally agree with you, but this post had that it wasn’t a slur so I thought that was useful. Or at least is worth as much as you believe 8bitnes has that source and that the source is reliable.

But in general yes, I dislike the “I have a source so I know about x, but it’s not my information to share, so I’m not going to tell you” posts

Especially when it's no longer an ongoing matter. It's over. Done. He's not coming back, the team doesn't care anymore, it's gone.

It’s not particularly useful but it’s dumb to harass them about it, which happens every time someone shares something like that on this board. It just chases off people with legit info.

I wouldn't do that. If you do, you are spreading something that maybe should be left alone. If TJ wanted us to know what was said or done, he would have told us. He didn't so it's best to leave it that way.

If you know something we don't, good for you.
