So in Howard County Iowa...the **** hole of the state I get two camera tickets both for going 41 in a 30. $125 each. Anyone get these types of tickets? I got one in Cedar Rapids a few years ago and never paid it, nothing ever happened.

As a side note I got a real speeding ticket in Howard county the night of one of the camera tickets...so 3 ******* tickets in two days from this place! Before I get the whole "slow down *******" speech I was driving my wife up to Mayo for Cancer treatment and I've not had more than 3 tickets in my life, I'm not a speeder. I can't help but feel going 11 over and racking up $375 in tickets (at a time I simply can't afford them) is just burning me up. This county and town of Chester is an absolute speed trap, it's disgracefull.

If I just ignore them (I will pay the real ticket obviously) anyone have any thoughts?
And by the way, get off my @$$ and stop tailgating, I am trying to drink a beer.

They might send you a picture of handcuffs... but mean it.

I was riding home with someone this weekend who got nailed for 83 in 65. She was so steamed and whiny about it that I was disgusted. Seriously, don't be an entitled jerk if you were in fact doing the thing they called you on. It was sad really. Total Karen job and I had to sit there and witness, and take the ticket from the cop cause she wouldn't.

If you wanna go with, "I had no idea," and you're serious, maybe you can get them down to one. If that's bull and you knew the whole time, then...

Lol, no. It's not a criminal offense. It's a civil violation. If it was classified as criminal, it would violate the 4th Amendment. So they can threaten you all they want, but that's about it.

I had to google where the **** Howard county is. I've never heard of them in places that small.

Chester is right on the Iowa/Minnesota line on US 63. I’ve driven through there several times (I used to live in Rochester with family back here in Iowa), and I do remember that speed limit drops in a hurry. Didn’t know they had cameras, though, that’s a new one.

I've been hit twice the only two times I've driven in Cedar Rapids in the last 20 years.. I was there twice within a week last fall and I didn't pay attention to the speed limits. I was going 69 in a 55, but it was on their "Freeway" that bypasses downtown. What is that? 380? I just figured it was a 65 zone. My mistake. Got both tickets within two days of each other a couple of weeks later. About $80 each. FU%%^NG smelly ass Cedar Rapids.

1. First and foremost, I really hope and pray your wife has a good prognosis going thru the treatments without to many bad side affects. I was in your spot in 2019 and it was the scariest time of my life. She is now cancer free and things are getting back to normal. I hope that goes the same way for you and your bride. Feel free to shoot me a pm if you want to vent or talk with someone who’s “been thru it”

2. Not sure what to say about the tickets altho I would think they’d get rid of one if you got them on the same day.

Mostly #1 tho. I know where you’re at believe me.

$125 each seems excessive. The ones here in Blue Grass (where they still have it posted at 35 MPH well after the last house out of town - so they're making sure the corn fields on either side are "safe") are $50 each. Then it's 45 MPH for a ways too.

The speed limits in some places are ridiculous and I don't understand why they don't follow the 85 percentile guidelines. Well, actually I do, it's a money grab.

I feel for you and yes it pisses you off. But a couple days from now you'll just chalk it up to ****** luck and money grubbing small town politicians.

Thanks for the warning and letting us know where they are. I'd skip the camera tickets and sees what happens.

They originally tried to make it sound like it was a safety issue, which at least on 235 was a complete lie. It slows locals down for 1/4 mile and it gives speeding tickets to people visiting Des Moines. Now politicians say that we can't get rid of them because they fund the police. It's a complete cash grab and I hope next year they ban them in the state.

Cedar Rapids ones are the same. Majority are out of state people. One camera on northbound 380 is particularly bad. It's just as you are leaving the downtown, but the speed limit change is conveniently located 100 yards past the cameras, so people speeding up get nailed. Even the state DOT has argued against that one.

That is why you fight it. More than likely will be dropped.

It’s also our due process. Use it.

I mean sure, but you're really gonna spend $500-$1000 on attorney fees to not have to pay $125 that won't go on your driving record?

Don't know where you're coming from but I go to Mayo several times a year and always go up through Osage and take little county roads up to 90. The only place I've ever seen cop is in Osage.

As for the cameras in Cedar Rapids - I don't know if this is still the case but it was previously: They weren't cameras checking your speed at that moment, they check your plate and time at each location and calculate your average speed.

I wouldn't pay it. About the only thing the state can do is try to attempt to keep a tax refund payment.

The key to getting rid of the cameras in Cedar Rapids is a collective non-payment by everyone. Unless things have changed, the city is RENTING those cameras from a third party company. That third party company gets XX percentage of money from each ticket, IF THE TICKET IS PAID OR NOT.

I'm guessing it wouldn't take long for the city to remove them if suddenly their revenue stream went dry.

That has been speculated a lot, but it's never been the case. The cameras are completely independent of each other.
