Lol, no. It's not a criminal offense. It's a civil violation. If it was classified as criminal, it would violate the 4th Amendment. So they can threaten you all they want, but that's about it.
In college I was on a project with a guy. I showed up and he wasn't there. I was told that the deputies hauled him out in cuffs. They had issued a bench warrant for him in Chicago for a mess of unpaid parking tickets.

$125 each seems excessive. The ones here in Blue Grass (where they still have it posted at 35 MPH well after the last house out of town - so they're making sure the corn fields on either side are "safe") are $50 each. Then it's 45 MPH for a ways too.

The speed limits in some places are ridiculous and I don't understand why they don't follow the 85 percentile guidelines. Well, actually I do, it's a money grab.

I feel for you and yes it pisses you off. But a couple days from now you'll just chalk it up to ****** luck and money grubbing small town politicians.

There’s this spot on Center Point Road in Hiawatha, just north of the Cedar Rapids line, that has a 25 mph sign - with a red flag on it - for the northbound lanes.

Across the street, a bit further north, for the southbound lanes there’s a sign that says 30 mph.

This seems to indicate the speed limit is lower n one side of the street than on the other, for the sane stretch of road. Totally bizarre.

Its not just small jurisdictions, Chicago has speed cameras and red lights cameras all over. Last Spring they dropped the ticket line to 6mph over as getting a ticket. 6-10 mph over is $35. 10+mph over is $100. The first 2 months it went into effect 322,000+ people got a ticket for going 6-10 over. (I was one of them lol) That additional $11.3 million in those 2 months won’t even make a dent in funding their pension debt.
Shouldn’t the pension fund itself…? Why shake down drivers to pay for a mis-managed pension fund?

Should we just mount cameras on everyone, and automatically send penalties for any transgression of the law?

Everyone is probably breaking a law of some sort every single day, with tens of thousands of pages of law/regulations on the books.
Yeah, those speed limit laws are so obscure, how is anyone supposed to even know how fast to go?

A little personal responsibility, Pride.

I got hit for going 55 in a 35 when I was visiting my mom's new house in Durant.

The still photo certainly shows my vehicle. The video shows my car, I don't recall speeding through an intersection, and the video didn't look like I was going that fast.

All in all, what can you do though when they have your car on camera and their word against yours?

First notice I got said it was their final attempt and the fine had doubled. Ultimately I ended up paying the original fine amount vs fighting a losing battle.

It's a cash grab. And Pride's point is valid and the direction we're heading. Which is not a surprise to anyone paying a bit of attention.

Do we need to merge with this with the Deere thread?

Great discussion going on about Pensions.
