Don't know if this was posted already, but FSU was supposed to have a press conference today and started tearing down the stage right around the time the extension was announced.

I can’t imagine it was Campbell. It’s not like he didn’t know Jamie would do whatever he needed to do. So either campbell was ready to bolt and had a change of heart or it’s a coindence. Or I suppose FSU could have lowballed him but I can’t imagine that was the case.

I've said this elsewhere - CMC is a man of impeccable character. He behaves differently than most coaches and that throws some for a loop. If he was after fortune he could have it. If he wanted fame it's at an elite school of his choosing. But he wants to DO something big and wants to do that with us. That's neat.

Campbell talks about family being the most important thing. They schedule fall practices so coaches can take their kids to the first day of school. Every year he is here is going to make it much tougher for them to leave.

Something would have to drastically change for him to leave now. Hopefully, we can rise to Mt. Union levels or at least be similar to what Snyder did at KSU. Get used to success Cyclone Nation.

I spent some time in the athletic offices and had a chance to speak in depth about Campbell. Essentially, this is what they loved about him. He does things the rights way and it makes it easy, because they never have to look over their shoulder. I think we’ve had several honest coaches, just not too many that could put a winning product on the field.

I have to agree with you here. Campbell just doesn't seem like the type of guy who would actually commit to go to FSU, then change his mind at the last minute because of something JP was able to pull off last minute.

Don't get me wrong, not saying Campbell wouldn't leave, just that if he agreed to go to FSU, I don't think ISU could have done anything to change that. He just seems like he knows what he wants and wouldn't resort to tactics like that to get more.

Obviously I could be wrong, as this is all my opinion, but I feel like if Campbell would have agreed to the FSU job, he'd be there because he doesn't break agreements.

Wouldn't surprise me though, reading what these FSU people post, if FSU did make an offer and just assumed Campbell would take it. No way campbell agreed to anything with FSU without discussing it with JP. And no way JP told him he couldn't do what it would take to make him stay.

Hard to take seriously that Florida State thought they had Campbell when the only report I've heard is from a brand-new Twitter poster from eastern Tennessee.

As Campbell's contract is extended, Barta is secretly hiding under Margaret McCaffery's bed, drawing up a new extension for Kirk. Depends, Miralax, rubber sheets, and free food for the next 20 years at Old Country Buffet are the current hold ups on it. Heard Barta left on a leash with Margi holding a whip in one hand and cup of water in the other.

Baby Brian was not mentioned as a possible replacement, but heard Margaret was pushing for the job. Also heard they might be changing the University name to "University of McCaffery".

Wonder when the numbers will materialize. Unlike last year, I fully expect that CMC's raise was significant, and hopefully they also added to the buyout. An increased buyout is what will keep chatter down somewhat next year - otherwise the noise level will again be deafening if we have a good year.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but I think the massive salaries that even Iowa State-type schools can now afford has changed the game for retaining good coaches (thanks to TV contracts with unpaid student athlete labor).

Unless you are after status, the added stress and expectations of a blue blood aren't really worth bumping your salary from $3M to $6M. At some point there are diminishing returns for overall happiness if you already have more money than you need.

This is true in many aspects, and people don't seem to get it. This applies to the huge dollars going to facilities as well. Big 10 schools have been making way more money than most schools for years, and that really exploded over the last decade, yet it hasn't materialized in on the field success. CFB has been in an environment of diminished returns both in terms of dollars to upgrade facilities and retain coaches. Most schools have at least adequate facilities now, so things like fit, comfort level, role, etc. are so much more a factor, where facilities play less a role.

Similarly, these coaches are making so much more money per year, many in low cost of living areas, that the impact of salary have been diminished. That's one reason the Cael comparison is completely invalid. The pay increase at the level he was at ISU vs. going to PSU was a major, life-changing type raise. Obviously it depends on the person, but the higher these salaries get, the less impact money has on decision to stay or leave a job vs. all of the other factors.

Theres a guy on the radio ******** about the extension after a 7-5 year...wtf. Is this guy a troll or the dumbest man alive.

Aren't all people who call into sports shows dumb? How bored does one have to be to do that? My mind is blown by regular callers into sports shows.
