I tell myself this, but, if I'm completely honest, I do feel the hope/expectations for next season welling up within just a bit . . .

I hear ya. Especially considering we get KSU, WVU, Baylor, TTU, and Oklahoma at home. If we win next weekend we'll be 4-1 against that group this year on the road.

Throw in UNI and what ever team (Toledo?) at home to start the year, I'm optimistic.

As they mentioned during the broadcast, this only works if you have guys that are good enough and selfless enough to take on double teams every play. Remarkable, with how bad our d-line situation has been in the past, we have that now.

Akron.

Since we've arrived at this point let's go ahead and cap this year at 9-4.

Next year happens when it happens.

Bingo. And that's easier said than done. Heacock has shown he's willing to sit back and get picked apart on underneath stuff and not send the extra pressure with few exceptions. That's what separates him from WVU...they're constantly sending extra guys.

Patterson at TCU is the same way. Sticks to base defense a lot with an occasional wrinkle thrown in of sending extra guys.

In order to run that defense effectively your DB's have to be able to be really good at tackling in space and for the most part our guys have been really god in that department this year. That's also what hurt us against OSU. Rudolph was pretty patient and hit his speedy receivers underneath and they made some really big plays with their legs.

He and his staff have created the kryptonite for the standard Big 12 fast break spread offenses. His "double cloud" (i.e., 3-man front/8-man zone) defense has dumbfounded the most explosive offenses in the Big 12.

You can bet the rest of the conference is studying ISU video closely. My guess is that you'll soon see ISU's scheme copied all over the conference and all over the country.

Campbell and his staff will fundamentally change the way Big 12 football is played in years to come.

The hoks are playing UNI in 2018 so we play the South Dakota State Jackrabbits and Akron at home
