Here's the thread for discussing the candidates...

Sounds like St John is moving up into the associate head coach position.

Does this mean Metcalf moves up as well into the assistant coach position or does he remain as the volunteer/C-RTC coach? Anyone heard?

Seems like it might be easier to move Metcalf up and find a new volunteer coach, given the time of year.

We should be able to get some answers Saturday at the outing in Fort Dodge. I think they still have openings? Information is on the CRTC web site.

That is the sound of it.

I think the plan is to move Metcalf up. They need to be on the road recruiting and a volunteer coach can't be on the road. So even if it is interim, those 2 are the assistants.

I am curious if Kyven is interested in the volunteer or wants to train full time through 2020

I wondered the same thing about Kyven. He seems like such a perfect fit... except for the part about gutting the RTC team.

Is this a permanent move for either St. John or Metcalf or only temporary? Saw initially it was temporary but things may have changed.

I think he would still be paid by the CRTC.
I was thinking more along the lines of would Kyven still be able to train to be the best in world and take on additional coaching responsibilities. His training would almost certainly suffer although his bank account would almost certainly not.

Only names I’ve heard are:

Tony Ramos
Sammy Henson
Nate Gallick
Kurt Backes
Kyven Gadson

Anyone heard any others?

I would agree 100% with you. It would be up to Kyven in my opinion. But unless there is a proven coach/recruiter; I think you at least talk to Kyven about it.

I am wondering if you just keep the position open and not rush to hire. Lots of teams are running on a 3 person staff and you still have Nate Carr and Kyven available on the CRTC side

The lead of the CRTC needs some serious credentials imo. Kyven is need of a top flight coach to reach his own potential.

Again, I hope we are looking at someone that can roll with Kyven and the heavier weights. Iowa benefitted greatly by bringing in Berhow.

Bring KJ back. He’s a proven senior level coach. I think if he was willing to come back he’d have the right credentials. On that note, there’s no way he’d come back.

Going to throw some names out.

Joey Dance - former VT guy, maybe in a Chicago Area RTC

Nato - I think he is training

Alex Dieringer - Ok State training. Not a well established RTC there.

IMar - with Illinois yet. Not sure if coaching or training only

Logan Stieber - Ohio State, kind of a guy between Olympic weights, I think. Some OSU guys have been going to Oklahoma to train

Nahshon Garrett - former Cornell, not sure where he is coaching or training

No idea if any of these guys are interested or vice versus (Need to help some people's reading ability)

Most of these guys would take some serious money from the CRTC to get them here.

Plus Berhow is a helluva grill man.

I forgot about Gallick. I have a funny story about him from when I was in college I will keep to myself. Where is coaching now? Or is he?

I might be late to the game on this by why no mention of Reader? Is he that tied to Bono?
I think they have a really good relationship and is being compensated well, plus the big 10 is a great conference for wrestling. I doubt he would leave Bono unless it's to be a head coach some place.

Are they looking to bring in an athlete or a coach? If they are going to hire an athlete, Gadson would be in line and a great option. If hiring someone to coach and build the RTC, they will likely need someone fully committed to the athletes.
