Quick aside before Drake tips off tonight to open Arch Madness: Now that the Cyclones (16-14) have clinched their first non-losing regular-season record since Wayne Morgan left town — what would you think about some more home games at Hilton Coliseum?

Reportedly, the asking price for a home tilt in the 16-game College Basketball Invitational — it’s pay-to-play, and winning records are optional — is roughly $60,000.

What do you think? Should Iowa State officials should pony up?

I say yes. Especially if it meant more home games at Hilton. I can't possbily see a downside to more games this year in year one of Freddy's tenure.

If we were further along in his tenure I wouldn't want to go and I don't want to ever have to worry about it again, but this one year I say lets do it.

I say I would. Especially if it meant more home games at Hilton. I can't possbily see a downside to more games this year in year one of Freddy's tenure.

agree completely, and this is a one time situation only. I will go to the game over there in Hilton. NO Hampton rematch though. Please. Give me a MoValley team or a Big Ten .500 team if possible.

I would love to beat down Hampton to make myself feel better.

Another thing is if we do get a home game it is a guaranteed sell out
 
I would not go to the CBI. If we were starting 3 freshmen, I'd say OK. Our starters are not especially young, and most of our starters for next year are not able to play in this anyhow.
 
The CBI and that other tournament that isn't the NCAA or NIT need to be eliminated before people start thinking that going to these things is an actual accomplishment. I would hope ISU would keep their money and be part of the solution instead of contributing to the problem.

As a non-NCAA event could the transfers play? I thought I read somewhere in the last year or 2 where one of these off the map tournaments where a school wanted to play a redshirt player. I could be way off the map too here.

It would be good experience for Ejim and Godfrey though. Maybe show that the university is behind the direction this program is taking? In the world of college athletics is $60,000 all that much money?
 
I am sure Diante, Jake and Jamie would all like to play as many more games as possible.
I say Yes without a doubt.

I think if you are of the belief that this program is going to get back to the levels in the 1990s, then you do not do this.

I am of the opinion that a tournament like this is beneath a program that wants to take themselves seriously in the future. We aren't Northwestern here.
 
Looking at the money stand point. I say yes. We have been consistantly been filling up Hilton all year, even against the bad teams, and when we are now in last place in the Big 12 standings.

It could be a good way of Jaime pocketing a little extra cash by selling out Hilton for a post season BBall game.

You know Hilton would be a rockin' for the first post season game in a long time.

This tournament is for the Nebraska's of the world. Not teams who have real aspirations in men's basketball.

This season has been better than expected. No reason to ruin it by playing in a 4th rate, money grab of a tournament. I doubt Pollard would do this.

I'm completely fine with the NIT because at least that tournament gets media attention and has some prestige. The CBI is a complete joke. I respect what this team has done and look forward to bigger things next season.

Now this made me laugh. Students will be gone on Spring Break, and anybody who loves college basketball understands just how worthless this "tournament" really is. This is the kind of "reward" that society should avoid.

How much does it cost to run a game at Hilton... You pay $60,000, plus the cost of running the building.

Last night, the attendance was 10,000 and that was helped by season tickets. I'm guessing the CBI happens over spring break too, right? No students. How many you think go to that game. If you think 10,00, let's say the average ticket price was $25... That's only $25,000 in revenue. Parking is free. I know people love their Clone Cones, but is there enough generated in revenue to not lose money?

This isn't football where a homegame yields revenue of over a million.
 
I'm gonna guess we make money off of it and I don't think it is beneath this team because we weren't expected to do anything this year.

I think if this team wants to get back to the level of the 90s we need as much experience and as many games as we can get. This year only though.
 
We're awfully uppity for being the worst BCS school of the last six years. Of course we should play, especially if it's at home.
 
Absolutely if we get the invite we take it. Its not the ncaa or nit, no way to argue that, but its better than nothing.

We'd still draw plenty to that game. It says 60,000 in guaranteed money, im guessing that means ticket revenues would go against that number? (and either they keep all ticket revenue or theres a revenue split on tix after the $60,000 is made) Id bet we'd clear that pretty easily.. even if it were $10 a ticket that's still only 6,000 fans that'd have to show up, not counting concessions revenue and such.
