Great interview! Now I'm even more sad I only got to see him play only two games :( Sounds like a really great guy.

Fantastic. Great interview and just continues to reinforce how impressive Royce is as a person.

Very cool interview. And it was only appropriate that it was with CW for CF. This is the place for Cyclone fans ... like RW.

I don't know if this makes me feel better or not, but I think we only got glimpses of his greatness. Of course, he could do a lot of things that resulted in good numbers. However, he could take over games. We saw it at the beginning of the UConn game and at times during the UK game. If he was less selfless and more focused on beating his man on play-after-play, it would have been awesome. We may not have won as many games, but he has an uncanny ability to win when he decides he wants to beat his man. This will be much, much harder to do in the NBA. I'm just glad that I got to see glimpses of his individual dominance, especially in the NCAA tournament.

I think one of the things I will miss most about Royce is this type of stuff. He's so open about his life, I feel like I know him as a good friend. I've truly enjoyed learning all of these things about his life. I know Cyclone Nation and all you CF'ers will keep track of him and update us all, but it won't be the same. He truly is a once in a lifetime player and person.

Great interview.

Of course, this only makes me more sad that he's leaving. The whole thing just kind of sucks.

I love Royce. It really hurts to see him go, but he's a grown man and is making the right decision for him. I really hope he succeeds in whatever he decides to do in life... but selfishly I hope it's basketball. He's just too much fun to watch.

You have to love this guy. When he has a great game but the team loses, he puts the blame on himself. When he owns some of the nation's best players like *******, he just talks about how his teammates will be better than him. I wish more star athletes had mindsets like Royce.

Great article, CW!

I think I have figured out the problem: Royce White is just way, way too humble, by half or more.

It's a part of his anxiety...they are intertwined (basketball & anxiety).

Music, helping others, etc. is his release from anxiety.

And I think the things that wants to do with his businesses can't be done while he is an NCAA athlete. I think if he could, he'd probably have stayed here.

Royce is smart enough to know that in order to do the things that he wants to do, he has to play basketball.

I think it's important we remember that Royce looked at basketball as his way of getting the other things he wants. Basketball is his job, but his music, his philanthropy and all of that are what he wants in life. Basketball is just his way of making those things happen. The guy has a vision. I don't think he has ever kept it secret that he doesn't "love" the game. He loves what the game can bring him. That's how I always took him, anyway.

Royce is an amazing person. Wise beyond his years. His anxiety, his past mistakes, all ended up being blessings. Let that be a lesson for all of us, sometimes the perceived bad things that happen open a lot of doors or allow you to transcend in ways you never thought possible.

And the next time someone gets a 2nd chance.....don't assume they'll screw it up. They just might make it work. I can't even begin to imagine if Iowa State hadn't given Royce that 2nd chance and if Royce wouldn't have taken it. It's pretty neat.
