chizik problems at ISU

When I saw that Auburn got blown out by T A&M, I did a little poking around in the web world and found that he was on the hot seat. coacheshotseat has him at #2 (currently #3) and there were very unsubstantiated rumors that the decision has been made, just waiting for the end of the season for the announcement.

When he left ISU, I got the impression from the medium that the players didn't like him, a feeling that seemed to go a little beyond the feelings of betrayal. I asked a colleague at work about the situation some time after he actually left (early 2010). I was told that he was ignoring players that he hadn't recruited.

Can anyone shed any light? What was his relationship with the players? Similar problems at Auburn? Another Leach?

It's already a done deal. That's just how things work. When the school president says that they're evaluating your job status at the end of the season, it's just a matter of how long the meeting lasts while they terminate your employment.

Chizik's problem at ISU was very simple: He is not a very good coach and ISU didn't have enough money to throw at the problem to cover for his deficiencies.

I played on a team and there was a change in coaching staffs. The new guys were from Wisc. and brought their recruits with them. After the first game, friends and family remarked "They sure favor their Wisc. kids". Alot of new coaches don't treat player at the program all that well.

It is one of the reasons I never liked Dan Mac. He came to ISU and talked about how there was no talent in the program and how he would need time to get his players. Still each year passed and the more players he brought in and the fewer players he did not recruit in the program, his number of wind went down each year. I always felt sorry for those players on the team he did not recruit and it is why I feel players should be allowed to transfer without penalty after a coaching change.

I agree with you on leaving programs...many coaches spill the same thing about how worthless the players in the program are when they arrive, then spend the next three years saying how "young" the team is. It's not fair for the left overs when they arrive in many cases. Both CPR and the Penn State coach are examples of how it should be done.

The man, the myth, the made up BS!! While it is becoming clear what kind of coach GC may very well be, 2 years is not enough to judge anyone. HOWEVER, four years is, and if ISU loses the next 2 games may the judging begin!! As it should.

No, ISU did not have two top ten recruiting classes in two years like the Chiz and AU is in a much better location for recruiting and well has a more storied program than we do. To Judge Rhoads after year four with our disadvantages (which are slowly going away) is just not a smart thing to do giving up on him.

As he was leaving for Auburn - it was repeated by the announcer doing the OU game. Afterwards they said how well CPR is doing here but they quoted Cheezdick as saying "This (ISU) JOB sucks"

It did not do us any good that the line was repeated on National TV but that's a matter for JP.

People should just let it go. He recruited better than Mac but was a rookie head coach and it showed. He was apparently given carte blanche to hire his buddies and we all know how that worked out. But some of your anger should fall on someone else.

I didn't take it as a jab? The way I took it was they were applauding CPR on how well he has done at ISU. They basically took a shot at Chizik because they brought up how he can't win at Auburn and how he said that the ISU job sucked.

If you let players transfer without penalty, coaches would basically become free agents. Those with a few great players, would get outrageous offers from schools to coach, and bring their players with them.
