The state of Ohio is a very large football viewership market. You can also add in some of Kentucky to their numbers due to their location. I'm not a huge Cincy fan, but their University is a very good school, and their athletic teams have been solid over the years, if not downright good some years.

They would probably have to do some work on their football stadium since it would be the smallest in the conference by 5,000 seats.

They just had a major expansion, and there's literally no more room for extra seats in that crammed on campus venue. "The Zoo" may be small, but the atmosphere is fantastic. When necessary the Bearcats can play in Paul Brown; so not a problem IMO. I'm sure there are plenty of anti-Buckeye folks in the state of Ohio who would love another power team to rally behind.

[edit]: My bad, CyInDFW- guess I was wrong:

UCF though? Really? I don't care how big they are, I don't see the Knights adding much in a market long dominated by Gators, Seminoles, & Hurricanes. If I have to choose between Mormons and a directional Florida school, I take the Mormons.

At least he's sounding more optimistic. Like he wants the Big 12 to succeed.

Plus there are enough details in his conversation to suggest this isn't wishful thinking here but actual analysis going on by the league office. He does have a terrible time keeping his mouth shut though, unlike every other school administrator in the league. That said, he is jabbering from a position of strength.

CBSSports.com is showing the SEC payouts are over $9 million/yr than the Big 12 now.

Something must be done. What that is....above my pay grade

I'm on board with having 11 members and 8 onference games. I don't think there is a good #12 out there right now. Houston : Don't want and it would end the big 12 BYU : TCU and Baylor would say no and way too far west. UCF and UCF: low fan support terrible sports besides football. Creates another Island. Memphis : was trending up for a while, but looks like they are on top of the rollercoaster and about to go down. UConn : was a fan of them for a while, but Their fans are worse than KU (hard to believe but it's true). Too far east, and like KU there is a big group of them that admit they don't care about football and what it does.
I want two more church schools since TCU and Baylor are playing so well.

Get a national Big 12 network, replace the longhorn, and we'll have a shot at better teams than Cincy

I agree neither school is the best of choices. When mentioning UCF attendance numbers it isn't so much their viewership in Florida, because we all know who dominates that market, but their numbers across the country. That said, even if we can break into Florida a little bit, it would help bring some Florida kids out of the SEC. Look at what it has done for SEC recruiting in Texas since A&M headed their way.

UConn to the Big XII is seriously the stupidest idea. Nobody, even alum of UConn, gives a **** about UConn other than when they make a run in March. They add nothing to the conference.

Adding UConn would be like picking off Wake Forest from the ACC.

UCONN has more NCAA basketball championships than Ku, i.e. a cut above Wake.

This guy gets it.

If you're going to add the Huskies to the Big 12, it should be the Huskies that are actually good at tackle football and just happen to be a good road trip away, share a common northern Corn Belt Midwest culture, bridge the geographic gap to WVU, and oh yeah, are located in the THIRD LARGEST TV MARKET in the country.

Not a fair comparison. Their numbers only include T1 and T2 payments for Big 12. They include T1-T3 for SEC. Factor in each schools T3 deal and they are making close to what the SEC schools are getting.

UCONN, large state school with good academics, and AAU. Its too bad they are located so far away and suck at the sport that pays the bills.

Any chance Boren and Bolwsby are playing some kind of good cop - bad cop thing? Bowlsby says "no no no" and Boren says "yes yes yes" so you can negotiate from a stronger position? e.g. "I can get you into the Big12, but you gotta take a bigger revenue hit for a while - otherwise Bolwsby won't agree".

Or am I giving them WAAAAY too much credit?

I'd rather hold off on expansion until after we find out what happens with the so-called ACC Network, and if the failure to create one invalidates the ACC's GOR and causes the conference to fracture. Cincinnati, Memphis, UConn, Tulane, etc will always be there, but I'd rather have bigger schools in the Big 12 if they're available.

This is why the Longhorn network is an issue right now. If they could roll that into one package for the entire Big12 (and i think most teams would be ok making sure texas still got their ~15 mil a year even if that meant the other teams taking a hit in the short term), think of the "recruiting" tool that would be for those ACC teams after their network fails? Hop on board...ours is already setup and will pay you an additional XX million. Clemson....FSU...yes please. Pipe dreams but still...

I read an article awhile back about this that really made sense but unfortunately i have no idea where to find it. I'm fairly certain it was in a thread here.
