Well if that is the case, that’s bad recruiting/management IMO. We have like 45 kids on the roster. That’s insane. I know a lot of them aren’t getting much money but at some point we have to turn the corner of replenishing depth and start focusing on 2-3 top flight kids a year then sprinkle in depth.
Landing kids in the 80-150 range is good if you’re looking to build a solid dual team with depth but if you’re looking to compete for team trophies in March, you have to have top10 type kids in your lineup. There is more than enough proof of that over the last decade.
I definitely think something fishy happened with AE and I don’t blame the staff for cutting ties at this point. Very disappointed in AE. I also can’t really blame this on the staff fully but this is just the most public fail of a piling amount of recruiting fails so far. Really need to start turning the corner on recruiting soon. We are going to have a solid team the next two years but I’m not very confident in our roster after that.

Agreed. Iowa used to recruit en masse like this...spread out the money and go for development. It worked 2008-2010 but Cael flipped a switch and out recruits everybody. We had four years between top ten P4P guys and it hurt us. Took us until now (except for 2015) to be a legit contender and still have less top P4P guys than PSU even with Nolf and Nickal graduating. ISU scored 32 points last year with two AAs.Add in two finalists with 20+ points and that is a trophy. W/O Lee's points last year, we would have struggled to finish top ten. The year before was much better but we bonused our ass off in 2018. So maybe Carr is that guy for you guys...AE is a stud, no doubt but has a lot of hurdles both on the mat and off. I was down in the Sunnyside room the other day wondering where he was...was pretty shocked to get the answer. I know it is a bitter pill to swallow but this is a very different situation than the norm. I do think he really would have done well at ISU.

Vast majority of the guys on the roster are walk ons. The staff is shooting big but falling short. So far, anyway.

I’m fully aware that the staff has been targeting blue-chip kids, it’s the coming in 2nd or 3rd for them that is frustrating.

azchief hits in on the head. The difference 1-2 elite blue chip type kids make in March is astronomical. I love the development this staff can make with kids and have no doubt they can turn some underrated kids into legit AAs (see Degen) but we HAVE to have the David Carr’s of the world too.

I know the staff is trying but so far something in their first 3 years isn’t clicking on the recruiting trail.

That one hurts bad. Recruiting is definitely an issue with this staff unfortunately
I hope a lot of these posts are the after effect of our FB team laying an egg against OSU. I was excited as anybody for Ech to be a Cyclone and am very disappointed that he's reopened his recruiting. I personally wonder if the language barrier led to some misunderstandings. It also appears that he was a bit of a long shot (much like Anderson) to see the mat for any team with his transition from Cuba and qualifying as a student. Along with that, I was also wondering if he could beat out Parker whom is a proven guy trending upward. Heck, maybe he got in the room and figured he couldn't beat out Parker or Degen and would have to sit a couple of years. I was happy before Ech signed because I hoped and believed that Reeves, Broderson, and the other 2019 guys will make a positive impact on our teams rise to the top. I'm glad we are going hard at these Blue Chip guys and most of them have us in their top list of schools... Trust the process. CKD was the NATIONAL Coach of the Year last year for good reason. We've added quality to the RTC and will continue to recruit top ranked guys to join our program. IF this team can continue to climb in the overall team race and some individuals hit AA and National Champ levels then more of these top 10 recruits will join the Cyclones.

So does anyone have the actual story of what has played out here? The whole thing seems off, especially if Dresser and Do. have decided to completely cut ties. It would appear that Echemendia has burnt some bridges on that front.

Is this a spot where he went to Who's Number 1, was arguably the standout performer and now has all the big dogs hitting him up? I mean he was reasonably well known commodity before after winning Fargo right?

AE's ultimate goal is freestyle success and there is plenty of money going around some RTC's that is likely getting "promised" in the future on the recruiting trail. Took an visit to Ohio State this weekend and they just happened to have a whole pile of RTC cash come available with Snyder bailing.

Could just be me being a conspiracy theorist.

If the staff & Echemendia plan was to potentially start at 141 for Iowa State in January and then takes a visit 2 months before that, I would be pissed too.

So long Anthony, I love the heart & dedication of Ian Parker.

Word on the street is that he got the required GPA and qualifying test score. Needed a core course to get into ISU but didn't appear to be interested in getting it any time soon.

I don't think the team would welcome him back with open arms after this weekend Twitter feud.

Correct. Ship sailed. Bridge burned. Whatever. Onward and upward.

Who was involved in this twitter fued?
A few of the guys, Gomez was the putting him in his place, a couple of others & he deleted all the negative comments. Basically, saying ISU did so much for him & he basically sh*t on them.

Does the tough recruiting have anything to do with NCAA? Seen on a few message boards that they are looking at Dresser, anything more to this story?

Asked and answered earlier in the thread I believe. In short, no, the issues seem resolved and the recruiting is an ISU issue.
