There's a limit for travel, so it does mean somebody staying home, but it's the last guy on the travel team so unlikely to matter much other than the fact that guy will miss out which sucks for him. And in true Iowa State fashion we're somehow going to need that 4th string tight end and it'll cost us the game.

The team voted in a "survivor-like" fashion to decide who to kick off the "island"

One of the more classy dimensions is that Pollard himself is not making the trip. He is giving these moments to the team.

Yeah I'm sure traveling with the team when you just fired the guy that recruited them all would have been a blast for Pollard.

Rhoads got a really long rope. I doubt anybody on the team thinks he was unfairly let go.

Wait, you don't want to be in a closed area at 32,000 feet with a hundred 18-22 year football players twice your size that you pssed off?

There are also exceptions in place that allow for more than 70 guys to be on the travel squad for conference games.

I've felt like this entire situation has been handled with a lot of class. I've been pretty impressed with the way everyone has handled it. Aside from Mangino that is. OVERLY OBESE surprise.

FIFY. I wonder if they will let Jake play a down in the game, I'm all for it.

Jake has been playing all year as long snpper for FG's.

Wyatt is the one redshirting and being allowed to travel. He will most likely not play as he would then lose his redshirt.

Also, there are exceptions to the 70 travel squad rule. For example, in 1998 (the year we ended the Iowa streak), in addition to the regular 70 travel squad players Coach Mac took all guys on the team from Iowa.

Meh, I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. Rhoads is getting fired for not winning games, not for being a pariah. There's no reason for him or the AD to be jerks to each other this last week.

This. But not getting why just not being a jerk is so constantly elevated to "classy".

I believe Rhoads also did this.

If it's done publicly with comments to the media, it can be interpreted that way. Can be a PR stunt and classy at the same time, though.

For example: See the TCU campaign for our kid captain. It was a PR stunt for the Boykin Heisman campaign, but it was also a really cool gesture that did a lot of good. Everybody won.

The 70 limit is a Big 12 rule, for conference games only. Games in Iowa City aren't subject to that limit.

The league has a travel limit for each sport in conference play.

First, does anyone from the Big 12 actually count?

Second, what are they going to do, suspend our coach?
