I'm surprised some of you AREN'T surprised.

Sounded like the kid was stoked about ISU. Freshmen year didn't work out, but it was only freshmen year. We still only have one PG. Clayton is going to have to sit a full year now without even the opportunity to play.

This is definitely the most disappointing transfer of the Hoiberg era to me. Best of luck to Clayton of course.

Wrong. He was so down after the McLemore banked-three game at KU that he went to his high school gym at 1am and shot jumpers with his mom rebounding for the next couple hours. This kid loved Iowa State and Hoiberg. Also remember seeing him walking around Sprint Center last year after we beat KU in the tournament decked out in ISU gear.

Morris is just too damn good. Custer will find a good home. He's a great kid from a great family... and he's talented too. He wants to start and make an impact. I wish him the best.

Hey Curved, good to see you back. Please advise on how you will be paying me my $100 that you owe me.

disappointing. I thought he would be one of the key members of the team in 2 years. I can't blame him for leaving though.

I think the reason a lot of us aren't surprised is that we have become a different program since CC was our last HS commit over 2 years ago (I know Georgios, but thinking more traditional HS players from the US). I think Fred has made it obvious that he will restock each year with the best player available. And I think, outside of 5-star or high 4-star guys, that isn't going to be HS players any more.

Result is that, while coaches will use the "recruit over you" tactic in recruiting against ISU for high school players, it doesn't really matter. The only HS guys will be guys that know they're good enough to play (Diallo, Bridges, Yakwe, etc).

I am not going to lie, I didn't even suspect this was coming. I think he will develop into a good point guard, nothing eye popping. Wish him well.

Hate to see Clayton go, but he will do great wherever he goes. Some speculative landing spots I think could be Tulsa and Houston as they recruited him out of high school. Another place I could see is St. Louis, just straight speculation though.

I feel that we will be fine at the PG spot next year and there is no need to bring in a fifth year transfer. Naz is capable of playing a few minutes at PG and I am hopeful that Cooke is more of a combo guard as we've heard. Watching him in CCL this past summer, he really impressed me as a distributor but take that FWIW because its pickup basketball.

I am expecting Monte to go pro after next year, which would leave some pretty big shoes to fill and a lot of immediate playing time available. I think that could be a good recruiting pitch for Malik Monk, even though he is a heavy Arkansas lean.

Cooke played PG for Oregon State and was on the all freshman team so, if he's healthy, I expect him to give Monte plenty of rest so he's fresh at the end of games. It will also not require Naz to play point as he's prone to turnovers, or require Niang to bring the ball up the court, which can make him more tired than necessary. I think fatigue played a big part in a lot of turnovers from Georges. Again, it's IF Cooke is healthy. As we won't know for a while, I can see Fred bringing in a PG as insurance.

So glad we have the distraction of who will be coming in to play this year.

Best of luck to Clayton. Sucks for everyone involved it didn't work out. I was really hoping to see him play meaningful minutes. I had a gut feeling it would happen, but it still depressing me out today.

Some how Calipari can keep like 20 McDonalds All Americans together. We can't keep our freshman in.

Worried what this could mean for Tsalmpouris and Thomas or the Diallo recruitment.

3 Schollys left to fill. Lets get someone amazing as Custer.

Diallo was coming here to play with Custer?

In this day and age, you should almost always suspect that players that don't get playing time are going to transfer.

Sorry, but I don't like this at all. I'm not sure it's what's best for him either. He'll need to sit out a year but would have 3 years of eligibility elsewhere. Here, he could play some next year, continue to develop and play a lot his junior year.

I'm not sure if I want to call him a quitter, but I'm pretty upset right now.

I can't blame him. Hallice Cooke runs the point very well and will serve as Monte's backup when he needs a breather. My guess is Hoiberg let Custer know that Cooke was ahead of him on the depth chart and that he wasn't going to see the court much.

Best of luck to Custer! I'm guessing with him being a Kansas kid he ends up at Wichita State and does a fine job there as a starter.

Should he have been getting all of the minutes you were advocating for BDJ??

I don't love it when players transfer. But I'd rather have them leaving on somewhat good terms and I'd rather have them leaving because they didn't make the rotation.
