Re: Coach Matt A

Matt just followed Marcus Lovett, who I believe is a St Johns target

The key target for landing Diallo. Their coveted PG... that is seriously ****ed up.

To me that says he is not only gone he has already started working. I do feel burned by this. He was Kool aid seller in chief sold us the WE will win a National Championship and it will be at ISU, would NEVER leave Fred not in a million years blather. We lose first round and he bolts? His dream job is being GM of the Knicks, but fine St John's is somewhere in between his dream job and ISU. I can accept that, but it's one thing to leave, it's another to steal the project you have been working on when you are going and you start working on your next job on the payroll of your current one (against your current employer). They should make assistants have a no compete clause on all recruits they worked on. I get it happens all the time. But I just didn't think he could do it to ISU, expect more from him. I wasn't sure we would win a National Title but I loved that Matt did. Diallo is our best shot in a few years to making that happen. Ironic that Matt could be the one that takes that off the table. Dude took his Kool aid and went home.

I don't believe its been confirmed that Matt has left yet. Sure, it very well may happen, but might as well save this stuff for when its official.

If Matt wants to go to St. John's good luck to him. Chris Mullin has never Coached before so it is risky. Fred has been a big surprise, but it doesn't mean Chris Mullin can do it by any stretch.

Fred is a smart guy, and I am sure is prepared for every contingency. His job if Matt goes is to find an upgrade.

Wow, this is a bit of an overreaction based on what we know at this time, which isn't much. Fred's been selling the national championships, too, and we don't know if Matt is for sure leaving, and if he does, we don't know how the Diallo thing is going to shake out. Should probably save your outrage until we have some more information.

Re: Coach Matt A

Lovett was a Lavin target, who has now been replaced with an unknown entity (in terms of coaching ability). We just lost a PG to a transfer. Couldn't it reasonably mean we are not only going after Diallo's buddy, but satisfying our need for a PG thru Matt's NY ties? Don't jump off a cliff just yet.

Theoretically he could be hedging both ways, even if he hasn't made his decision yet...

A potential relationship with the recruit serves well for both ISU and STJ for Coach A.

Whichever he chooses in the end.

Schools snipe recruits after coaching changes all the time, for that matter.

This. I love the humor I get from reading these forums. But seriously, break out the tin foil for some of you conspiracy theorist. It is just as plausable that Fred couldn't get into New York for the visit and that Matt met with him representing Iowa St, not St John's, and that now they are looking into options at PG. A PG who would help land Diallo. Let's wait till there is an actual fire before yelling FIRE!

Given that ISU is probably the leader for the transfer from Loyola, it seems as though they are searching for another guy.

But the half empty glass guy in me, pretty much figures that he started following in anticipation of a job change. Especially if he started following the guy since Lavin was fired.

Can someone tell me who on this years team was Matt a lead recruiter for? Did he find Niang or was that Fred going after him after he saw him play against Noel? Don't think Monte was a Matt recruit. I did not read the entire megga thread so if the list is somewhere can you just link it back. Thx

Over-react much? Maybe he's following and in contact with Lovett to fill our back-up PG need. We did just have a PG leave, correct? Lovett, from what I have read, is a LONG way from qualifying, as he has not even taken ACT yet. So he actually makes more sense for us (sits/goes to JC for a year) than he would be for SJU if he's simply filling the "PG for Diallo" role. Diallo will almost likely be there one year.

We're suppose to wait until something actually happens (Matt leaves) before assuming everything is shady and everyone involved is shady and paid people to screw us.

Re: Coach Matt A

While Matt A could be contacting the PG you would expect the to be some report from someone about ISU recruiting a new recruit that's close to our biggest target.

Just because he followed him on Twitter? Yeah that would be a great lead.

Re: Coach Matt A

it's entirely possible that everyone involved knows Matt going to St. Johns is a done deal and they just haven't made it official yet. I don't know why that would make an ISU fan mad, It's not like he's going behind Fred's back.

If ISU really was recruiting him and ISU wanted to reveal the truth that Matt A isn't going anywhere I'm sure every source that gives info to every reporter who covers ISU would be extremely quick letting them know.

You'd think at least one would.

What are we hearing right now? Complete silence past acknowledgement that St Johns is essentially Matt's dream job.

I think one thing that frustrates fans is that we are a top 15 team and we are losing as assistant to a team that isn't even in the power five in a lateral move.

I understand if Matt wants to be closer to "home", but IMO if you want to be successful at coaching, where you live is not a factor. Successful people do the things (and live in places perhaps) that unsuccessful people are unwilling to do.

FWIW, Twitter follows have actually been a pretty good indicator of what is going on recruiting wise with Fred, Matt and the team. It might not be that way in this case, but its notable observation.
